My 2003 alero has recently had the altanator replaced and we replaced the ignition module and that stopped the security light from coming on. now its only the battery light and air bag light that comes on when i accelerate. any ideas?
a defected alternator even if new . under charge or over charge cause battery light to come on . also make sure belt not slipping or some thing wasted on it.a defected alternator even if new . under charge or over charge cause battery light to come on . also make sure belt not slipping or some thing wasted on it.

I OWN a 2001 Olds Alero and the same thing happens to mine.. It's an easy fix.. 1. Turn the Key to ACC (keep it in this mode for the entire 10 minutes). 2. The security light on the Dashboard will flash for exactly 10 minutes.. 3. Once the 10 mins are over, the security light will stay solid.. Wait for the red light to disappear off the dashboard... YOU ARE NOW READY TO TURN YOUR CAR OFF AND RESTART YOU CAR....
When the security light is blinking, the problem is the key or ignition. When it's solid, it's the Theft Deterrent Module. This link explains and offers solutions.
Well stop replacing parts here is the common failure since everything is new go to thhe ignition control module its on the top rear valve cover this is where all your plug wire are at. The most popular failure is the wire connection I see this on a month to month bases you will see two type of connection one has 5 wire coming into it and the other is three more than likely the the connection with three wire going to it is making intermittent contact get some one to help you if the vehicle is not starting go to the ignition module where the three wire connection is at wiggle it like you are trying to put it on if it start thats your problem now it can be that but if you replaced the coil you may have replaced that and not included that in your list
basically you have a high circuit input in other words bad connection
If the security light keeps flashing, you might as well do a reset.
Be sure to turn off all the accesories including the radio before you start the process.
Insert the key to the ignition switch and turn the key to ON position without starting the car.
leave it ON until the flashing light (security) stops. It will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
As soon the flashing stop, turn the key to OFF
position and start the cart.
Hope this help.
WHEN SECURITY LIGHT COME ON YOU HAVE PROBLEMS IN EITHER THE IGNITION SWITCH OR WORN KEYS.OR YOUR BODY CONTROL MODULE GOING BAD.THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO FIX.IF THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH - KEYS - OR BODY CONTROL MODULE.THEY HAVE TO REPROGRAM NEW KEYS AND IGNITION SWITCH TO THE BCM AND PCM SO CAR WILL CRANK.
Im not sure if you got your alero to start yet. But heres an Idea, The alero comes with a security feature that if you have 3 failed starts it activates. a good sign of this is while having the key turned does your security light flash on the dash. if so turn the key forward with out starting the car and leave it on for 10 minutes and then the security light on the dash should stop flashing. Now turn the key off and remove key stick key backin and turn over to start car. Did your car start ??
