You can't bypass safety features on a car like a Saturn. All of these features are controlled by the Engine Computer, the ECM.

You need to fix the problem rather than trying to find a way around it.

All it has is a clutch pedal safety switch. It is located above and actuated by depressing the clutch pedal. See photo below.

Abel, yes, safety feature just in case it didn't happen to be all the way in neutral.

Jeanette, break switch is above brake pedal arm, safety neutral switch is on transmission, clutch pedal safety switch above clutch pedal arm. Links below have pics.

Could be plug catalytic con.

No, not that switch, but the brake light switch on the brake pedal. It may just need adjusting to turn off when brake pedal is not pressed.
The neutral safety switch is in your starting circuit to keep car from starting when not in park or neutral.

Could be several things.. I would suggest replace the neutral safety switch, all O2 sensors and fuel and air filters, PVC valve and if needed plugs n wires..
The issue could also be a bad throttle body.. Should be a good idea to get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine - get the codes and then you will know more of what you are dealing with..

Whether it is a manual transmission or automatic there are safety switches to prevent such a thing.

You linkage is working properly it sounds like, especially if the indicator for "D, R, N", etc are lining up. However the linkage or the neutral safety switch may need to be adjusted. More than likely, it's your neutral safety switch.

The brake pedal release has nothing to do with the neutral safety switch when switching gears.

The brake pedal release is just a safety to prevent you from pushing the gear shifter accidentally. Actually, you should be able to start the truck without holding the brakes.

If the neutral safety switch is bad or misaligned, it'll do exactly what you're describing. If pulling it down in neutral starts the truck, then that's a sure indicator.
