Reset keyless entry on 1998 honda civic

atxhonda is right. Your going to have to replace the stereo and an aft mkt stereo will be the cheapest by far, however you should know that 96-00 Civics keyless entry control unit is inside the factory unit and by replacing it with an aftermarket deck you will lose you factory keyless entry system. If you don't have or use honda factory keyless entry or maybe you have an aft mkt keyless entry installed than I would go with the aft mkt deck.

if you do not have the codes go to the dealer with proof of ownership (because it's a security feature) and tell them you need the codes for that year. you will also need to give them your vin. it's pretty much that or having them do it

your batteries may have went dead in the remote,go to your nearest car parts warehouse try that sometimes it may have to be reset by dealer after batteries have been replaced.

The keyless entry is designed to work with the doors closed (closed - not locked). If the door ajar sensor thinks the door is open the keyless entry is disabled. When you manually lock the door it might tighten the door just enough to activate the keyless entry. I would try slamming all the doors closed and then see if the keyless entry works. If it still wont work have the wiring checked on the front door lock.

If you still have the factory radio, there is a way to split the power wire for the factory radio to the aftermarket radio. All you will need are the power and ground for your aftermarket radio, so the rest of the wires should be untouched on the plug for the factory radio. You can simply re-install the radio within the dash and retain the keyless entry as well as restoring your dome light function. Here's a PDF of some instructions. Hey .. i have a 99 civic also and i found my door doesnt lock unless u open the handel and then lock it and was talking to the shop and they told me things get gumed up inside and take it apart and clean it up with lub .. try that see if it works sounds like same problem

Do you have multiple keyless entries for this car? If so does the other one still work, perhaps it just needs to be reprogrammed. Take it to your nearest Honda dealer and they should be able to get it working again. If it is constantly locking and unlocking, the computer could be getting a signal from the remote which would indicate a reprogramming is needed too.
