Hello , could someone please help me .... I have an automatic 1.1 Hyundai atos and I am having problems. sometimes it starts perfectly and now lately it sometimes does not start at all, also when I don't have this problem on good days and quite often my car screeches with no ignition when I turn the key and only comes right when I repeat by turning key from beginning point again. sometime I have to do this and only on the third attempt it starts. please note ....I had the battery tested and found it to be in good working order. my next service will be coming up soon. thank you
If you hear a click under the hood from the starter the starter solenoid but starter is defective and you should rebuild it. If that is not the case I would replace the ignition starter switch, this is the electrical switch the key cylinder actuates to turn on the electrical system and engage the starter.

hi as the timing belt is toothed it would not slip however it may be loose and in need of renew? as you do not mention milage ie period the belt is due for replacement ? the screech if this above is problem? would/could be the belt slip on the adjuster bearing which should also be renewed with belt i would first check out the alternator/p/steer belt as the loading of belt if slack/worne when starting from cold will give screech as it starts to overcome load of alter and especially p/steer oil pump then noise ceases as engine warms?? if you drop this belt off bfore you first start from cold ? would give an indication of which belt req's attention ? ps! as for age of car/milage? would not ignore the recommended milage for timing belt renewal ? hope this helps you diagnose problem ?

1. This could be because the fan motor is not workin. Check the fuse and check to see if you are getting power to the fan motor. If these checks are ok, then I would suspect the fan motor.
2. This will most likely be the drive belt that runs the alternator that either needs adjusting or replacing.
3. You will need to check your ignition timing.

no that is not normal whoever cut the key for the car did not do a very good job if i were you i would get one remade because in the long run you are going to end up messing up the ignition switch and they are not cheap

Remove the belt and check all pulleys for smooth operation. any binding at all is amplified when belt tension is applied. also check the belt itself...If it's glazed or dried out, it can be noisy.

If you have not found the problem yet, check the transmission interlock. Sounds like the shifter interlock switch may not be engaging to allow the starter to activate!
