I have a 99 ek hatchback with an auto tranny 120k miles, Yesterday I was driving home from school and out of no where while going around 40mph my transmission started to slip and rattle, I tried down shifting to d3 and 2nd gear and it didn't downshift it went completely into neutral and just revved up, I stopped in a parking lot and put it in reverse it didn't go into reverse. I turned the car off while it was in park and turned it back on, gears shifted but went out just like the first time, once I got home I replaced the tranny fluid and it ran good for the most part, drove it today and it went out once again, need help ASAP this is my dd

Check your input or output sensors on top of tranny. Check engine light?

SOURCE: Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: rebuilding 1995 honda civic transmission

Did you make sure that the tork converter was all the way forward first if not then you will need to take the transmission back out and make sure that the converter has either automatic trany fluid in it or 184/85 gear oil depending on whether or not you have automatic trasmission or manual fill it up until you can put your finger in it and then rotate converter clock wise and it should slip into place before putting trasmission back into car and if after doing that and you still are having trouble take it to a transmission shop to have them do it for you.

SOURCE: Car wont shift into gear. Gear shift moves but gears don't

It sounds like the lever from the gear shifter has come loose. I would first look at the shifter from under the car. You can also remove the boot (or console) from inside the car and check the linlage. Most linkage is held on by a small clip or cotter pin and somethime they don't stay in place anad the linkage slides off the arm..

Truck works fine in R, 1, and 2 nothing in 3 or D. 2006 Silverado V-6 automatic 1/2 ton

Hey Anon, Yes, drive it to the tranny shop..plan to leave it... sounds like you are in for a rebuild.. this is typical for GM RWD transmissions.. I have seen TOO many do this same thing,, (I have had TWO in for this... vehicles I inherited that were not maintained)..GM transmissions on RWD's must have the fluid and filter changed every 50K - 75K and a complete fluid exchange and filter replacement every 120K -150K MINIMUM for them to last..usually cost around $1200 - $1400.. sorry.. Good luck!

Computer is telling trnny to shift when it shouldn't

you have a mechanical fault in the trans or a poss shift solenoid issue, most tranny shops will road test the truck for free and give you an estimate and prelimiary estimate.

Transmission Slippage

You can have the clutch and the pressure plate checked. If it is an automatic tranny you may try to drain the fluid and have it replaced or have the solenoid cleaned out or checked. The solenoid controls the hydraulic pressure to the clutch

Not catching 2nd gear

Check the level and condition of your tranny fluid.
Check the level with the car running, in park.
The fluid should be a pink or bright red color.

Auto gearchange

Are we referring to a manuel tranny or automotic? If its a manuel tranny, you have a bad syncro in the transmission. This would require a complete tranny tear down.
