91 automatic Cavalier stalls after stopping

Hey!

I have a 91 AUTOMATIC Chev Cavalier that is currently sitting in a mall parking lot because it "died" on me in an intersection during rush hour. Here's what happened.

Intersection A: At the red light we came to a complete stop and the car stalled as though the clutch was properly engaged. The car started again with no difficulty and drove fine for about 200 yards until the next intersection.

Intersection B: Red light again and the automatic car stalls. We again are able to restart the engine with nothing abnormal occurring. We shift it into "D" to get through the green light and the car stalls again. It stalled every single time through every single "gear option". It consistently restarted each time perfectly and without fail stalled each time we tried to move.

We checked the transmission fluid and there was plenty...although it was very dark brown in colour.

What could be causing this? I've had a few suggestions, including:
* Torque Converter
* Solenoid for the Torque Converter
* Idle Compensator
But I seriously have no idea!

Any help would be great!!!!

    1991 Cavalier 2.2l automatic with 244,000 + miles. The lock up converter seems to remain engaged after about 30 minutes of driving and will stall the engine when I come to a stop.

    car will lose RPM's and begin to stall mostly at red lights/ stop signs sometimes if i press gas pedal a few times quickly it will take off ( very quickly) it will also lose RPM's while I'm driving and stall out but it restarts immediately

It sounds like the torque converter clutch. Just unplug it. It is the square 4 pin plug on the front of the transmission. Once it is unplugged and you get it unlocked, it will be fine. Just leave it unplugged, it won't hurt anything.

Where is the front of the transmission? I'm not seeing any plugs except at the firewall.

1994 cavalier major problem

Two possibles, you may have a short in the wire that acctuates the starter or your ignition switch is bad.If you want the procedure for checking these comment back and I'll respond this afternoon.As far as the stalling problem,I'm not sure,does it only do stall in a turn or stop?It's possible the baffle in the fuel tank has broke free.
