SOURCE: ignition: key will not turn
Have you tried moving the steering wheel from right to left while trying to turn the key, I know the wheel is locked but it will move slightly, sometimes this allows the key to turn, used it many times on cars with your problem, mostly it works. I would also suggest spraying a little WD40 into the lock cylinder, there may be a stuck lock pin. If all this fails remove the plastic steering column covers and replace the lock assembly, once you get the ****-shell covers off you will see how the whole thing is removed.

I would check the thermostat first. It sounds like it may be stuck open.
On any of the newer autos pulling the front panel to access the heater controls is a major pain.
Start with the easy stuff first.
Good Luck, Duane
