BMW 318i M43TU Engine, Inside the oil filter housing there is a small plastic valve (for want of a better word)it has a small spring, if i push it, it opens to the sump, there is an o ring on this valve thing and this is the source or my oil leak. I need to know what this part is called if just the o ring can be replaced if not how do i replace, so far no workshop manual mentions this part or the oil filter housing. I have a picture if needed Thanks Paul

    Hi

    Yes it does.

However i have had everything apart again today and found the problem part comes out of the block, (i didnt want to try before incase in was secured on the otherside of the block, Cam side)

In getting it out i was able to go to dealer and order another one.

I have also managed to put 2 new O rings in part (temp), car is now leak free and back on the road.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Paul.

1990 triton oil pressure relief valve location

Hi Lee, There are two oil pressure relief valves on most vehicles. One is fitted onto the oil pump assembly and another onto the oil filter housing assembly. The oil pump pressure relief valve is located at the front of the engine and is accessed via a blind nut on the side of the unit. The bolt is in the form of a cap, which when removed can be seen to be holding down under tension a spring, which in turn presses the valve. If the pressure becomes too high the valve body is pushed upwards and releases an amount of oil, thereby maintaining the required pressure. The valve built into the oil filter housing works in much the same way, but its job is to allow oil circulation in the event of a blocked oil filter. regards John

Location of oil filter in 2010 Camry LE 4 cylinder

First of all you will need to purchase the paper filter that also comes complete with a small plastic tool. Drain the engine oil as normal until all of the engine oil has drained and put back and tighten the drain plug.Underneath the engine you will see an aluminum housing that has a nut on the very bottom of it and above that a place to fit a large socket wrench ( About 2 inches in diameter) you can purchase this socket at a discount car parts shop. this socket has a 1/2 inch attachment for a socket wrench. First remove the very bottom plug and only a little engine oil will drain as in order to get the rest of the engine oil out you will need that small plastic device that comes with the new oil filter. this plastic tool is what opens up a valve inthe oil filter body to let the rest of the engine oil out of the canister. After all the oil has been removed then use the oil filter canister tool to remove the aluminum body from the engine. With the removal of the body the replacable filter will be inside of the body as it is released from the engine. Note that there will also be 2 o-rings that are part of the filter kit. the large o-ring will be the replacement for the one that is around the thread area on the aluminum bodyn ( To seal the canister to the engine ). The second one is for the small plug that you removed first. After that you will need to refill th engine oil to the correct level. Dont forget to only use SYNTHETIC OIL.

Where is the oil filter located on the bmw 116i

right at the front in the middle below plastic housing. Has 1 large plastic cap on a metal lower casing, not metal bodied like old oil filters just has filter element. Also replace 'O' rings that should come with the new filter as the old will have squared off or become perished. I think you need a 27mm socket to undo the filer housing.

2003 VW Beetle TDI

The oil filter is in a filter housing located on the top of the engine. Take the engine cover off. The 3, 10mm nuts are located under the circular pop-off covers that attach the plastic engine cover. You should see the oil filter housing to the right of the engine valve cover. The oil filter housing is a black, plastic cylinder with a cover that unscrews. The filter is inside of this. Make sure you drain the oil before unscrewing the cover to the filter housing.
