SOURCE: 99 dodge 2500 5.9 cummins fuel pressure at 3psi

The 3 psi is caused by a failed transfer pump. The problem the loss of could be the VP44 injection pump. This pump should be run at min 7psi. I had the same fuel pressure problem. I replaced my stock transfer pump with a FASS DDRP from www.usdieselparts.com. The stock pump is over $200 to replace and will fail again, sometimes right out of the box. The DDRP will supply about 15psi to the pump and is simple to install. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge diesel 2500 seems to have a fuel related problem.

Please clarify the "loosing power" does it lose power and shut down or does it loose power but will idle? Your Cummins is electronically controlled so oil condition is important, fuel leaks, oil leaks, leaks in the air ducting between the turbo and the intake, sensors, water in the fuel. Do you get an engine light when this trouble happens? Dodge uses a lift pump to carry fuel to the the injection pump, is it working?

Changed computor wont start

FIRST CHECK YOUR FUEL PUMP TO ENSURE IT IS WORKING PROPERLY, THEN DO A FUEL PRESSURE TEST. AN AVERAGE READING WILL READ BETWEEN 15 AND 30 LBS. THEN YOU NEED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC IS IT GAS OR DIESEL IF IT IS A DIESEL THEN YOU NEED TO LOOK INTO INJECTOR PRESSURE THE AVERAGE CUMMINS COMMON RAIL PRESSURE AVERAGES AROUND 5,000 TO 8,000 PSI ANYTHING LESS THAN 5,000 PSI THE TRUCK WILL NOT START OR WILL BE HARD TO START.

Has fuel pressure but not getting gas

The FIRST thing to do is scan your onboard computer network for possible fault codes. You may just have a code for a cranshaft position sensor or Mass Air Flow sensor or something similar that will explain why the engine is not getting any fuel.

Check the fuel delivery system to make sure it is performing according to manufacturers specifications:

The fuel pressure specification for 1999 Dodge Durango is 44-54 Psi. (3.0-3.8 kg/sq.cm) Please note that the specification published by the manufacturer is with the key ON, engine OFF and the fuel pump being activated with a scan tool.

Also note that "CLOSE" is not good enough. I have had vehicles towed in that were only 2 or 3 Psi under the minimum specification that would not start.

If the fuel pressure/fuel delivery is within specifications, then you need to check your fuel injection system. If it gets this far, let me know and we can continue diagnosis.

Transit pump code p0216 how can i fix this

P0216 DTC - Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction and this means the diesel fuel injection pump has a timing failure. This could be that the injection pump timing needs adjusted OR the failure is internal to the injection pump and therefore non-adjustable.

NOTE: If your vehicle is a Dodge Ram with Cummins engine then be aware that fuel delivery problems frequently cause this code. Prolonged fuel delivery problems can cause injection pump failure!

Symptoms of a P0216 DTC may include:
Low power
Crank, but no start
Hard start
Displays an intermittent stumble or miss
Engine may start and then stall
Engine may appear to drive fine but surge at idle

The most frequent cause of this code is a bad injection pump due to poor fuel delivery. Fuel delivery problems could be:
A plugged diesel fuel filter
An in-tank blockage
Air in the fuel due to a cracked in-tank fuel ine above the fuel level
Bad transfer (lift) pump
Injection pump out of time

Possible Solutions: First, simply check if your injection pump timing is adjustable. If so, check the timing and adjust if necessary.

If you think that you may have a fuel delivery problem, then check the lift pump operation. On Dodge Ram with the Cummins engine, the lift pump should produce about 45 oz of diesel in 25 seconds of operation. This can be performed by disconnecting the fuel hose from the injection pump and pumping the fuel into an approved container. Bump the engine over but do not start it. Then the lift pump will operate for 25 seconds. If the fuel is aerated, then check/repair fuel line and recheck.

With the fuel hose connected the fuel pressure should be 10psi. If the fuel delivery tests fail, replace the diesel fuel filter and recheck.

If it still fails then verify there are no restrictions in the fuel tank

Then replace the lift (transfer) pump. IT SHOULD BE NOTED that if this code surfaced after a routine fuel filter replacement or if you have any of the above symptoms after routine fuel filter replacement, then suspect the fuel transfer pump. This occurs because even a weak transfer pump can still provide enough fuel for the engine to run. But when the fuel system\'s prime is lost due to fuel filter replacement, it may not restart again without fixing the fuel delivery problem.

If you found your injection pump to be bad, the lift pump should be checked for operation to protect the new injection pump. This is because weak or low output from lift pump are common cause of injection pump failure. There are some aftermarket kits that can be purchased to warn the operator when the fuel pressure/volume drops to level that could damage the injection pump.

Hope this helps (remember to rating this free answer and leave a testimonial comments).

Dodge ram turbo diesel 5.9 1999 runs good for 5 miles then start lose power then runs for 1 mile and keeps doing the same thing.I chaned the fuel filter and fuel pump but she keeps doing it.Fuel pressure...

The only thing I can think of is some how either some gas got into your tank or some other foreign matter. ie: sugar or something else.
I know if you put gas in a diesel it will mess up and slow up the motor.
Making it want to cut out. Not sure about little trucks but the big trucks use this stuff call Hot Shot.
It helps get the water/condensaion out of the tank and lines.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I was driveing down the road an my truckwhich is a 1999 dodge ram3/4 ton with the cummins turbo in it started spitting an spuddering an then died. the codes from a cheap scan tool showed p0216,p1690 and...

The p1690 is the transfer pump code I believe. Unfortunately the engine will run without a good transfer pump for awhile. Eventually the main injection pump will fail due to lack of fuel pressure. The main injection pump requires 6 psi minimum. When the main pump fails and this is the unfortunate part it's trash. It is possible you just lost enough fuel psi that it died and a 160 dollar lift pump will fix you up. I would suggest a fuel psi gauge on all 98 and a half through 2002 dodge diesels. A 80 dollar gauge can save you about 1800 dollars and that 1800 is if you do it yourself.

Truck wont start after draining fuel filter?

You may have gotten air in the fuel lines. Diesels cant deal with this as well as gas engines should be a purge / bleeder valve on the fuel lines to eliminate the air. may cough and sputter for a while
