Loud ticking noise on startup

I'm expieriancing a loud ticking noise when I first start up my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. It goes for about 5 min. and then goes away. Car seems to be running really well but I just bought it and I'm a little concerned. FYI it has 50 thousand miles. Ya'll think this is a lifter issue or what?

I would have you oil pressure checked. The oil pump or bearings could be going out. The lifter noise on this car usually will go away faster then 5 minutes. I think the noise is lasting a little to long.

You need a new starter solenoid. It is essentially a heavy duty remote switch that is activated by your ignition key switch. The solenoids get stuck or don't conduct well after 6 to10 years.

Have it towed as the blower has probably lost one or more bearings. If metal shavings enter the cylinders, there could be serious damage there as well. Good luck!

Ticking Noise at Startup

Possibly a leaking hydraulic lifter. They can leak down while engine isn't running and then make a ticking noise for a while on startup. If it takes 10-15 minutes to go away, it is more likely to be a loose tappet which needs adjusting.
