SOURCE: how do open the hood

Under the car:
You will be able to open the hood if you pull off your splash guard and use a long long flat head screwdriver or something like that. You'll see the hood latch in front of the radiator with the cable attached to it at the top near the hood, put it on the drivers side edge of the bottom of the latch and pry to the passenger side, the lever moves from the drivers side to the passengers side, the cable basically pulls the top of it to achieve this. so your doing the same thing on the bottom with the screwdriver.

Release the latch from underneath by the lever that you have to pry towards the passenger side. Then open the hood, and replace the safety release mechanism broken cable.

2005 quattro , battery is dead and hood wont release. Is it an elecrtonic release?

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Right I've got an audi 2003 sline the battery died as wasn't using it I popped the hood and jump started it now the hood will not close. It closes to first lock but will not go down all the way.

Sounds like the hood release catch is stuck! Either the cable or the catch itself is stuck open, check the catch and spray some lubricant like WD40 on the catch and visible cable to loosen it!

How to open hood if the cable for hood latch broken

try taking the wheel liner out on the side of the stuck latch and access the latch directly you can open it by hand if u follow the cable to lever. if you cannot access from wheel ull have to go from under the bumper as a last resort ull have to unbolt the latch while connected which can be tricky

Hood latch release cable broken

ok if you can access the end of the cable from inside the car try using a set of vise grips to hold it and carefully pull to open the hood. if you need to access the latch from the grill its a tight squeeze but I recall that a thin screw driver was able to move the lever to release the latch. see the attached pic the unit is upside down try to push the lever towards the drivers side http://www.worldimpex.com/assets/partimages/043694.jpg
