P0446 code The check-engine-light illuminated on my 2002 Hyundai XG350 (85K miles). No noticible impact on drivability. Had it checked at a local Advance Auto and it shows a P0446 (& P1191 & P1193) code. Please advise. Thanks!

Car was parked on a slant for two weeks while I was away. when I started it on my return the engine light came and stayed on and the car has slow pick up and stutters somewhat...no strange noises, ho

Best to have a local shop read the computer error code from the car's OBD. My guess it has nothing to do with the parking slant. More likely a fouled O2 sensor or worn out catalytic converter. Could even be a loose or poorly sealing gas cap.

Just sold my 2002 GLS AWD with 291,912 miles. Still runs great... doesn't burn a bit of oil between 5,000 mile changes.

Error code 340 & 457

  • P0340 - Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction.
  • P0457 - Evaporative emission control system leak detected (fuel filler cap loose/off)

There is a bulletin #0398 posted on 05/12/2003 for P0457 - Malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illumination with diagnostic trouble codes p0442, p0455, p0456, p0457, p1442 or check fuel cap lamp illuminated with diagnostic trouble code p0457.

I'd suggest checking with your local dealer, as it may be a fix that is covered by the dealer.

2002 Hyundai XG350 Error Codes P1191, p1193 & P0446

Error codes P1191/P1193 are a paired code indicating the Electronic Throttle Sensor (ETS) had detected engine RPM's of less than 470, resulting in a potential "limp home" mode. Technical Service Bulletin #06-36-003 identified several differing possible causes, ranging from a faulty ETS -to- loose connectors -to- carbon buildup around the throttle body. Error codes P300/P302/P304 are misfire in cylinders 2 and 3. Have your fuel injection system cleaned out with a machine and replace your spark plugs. Error code P0455 indicates a large fuel vapor leak. This code can be caused by the following things:An actual fuel vapor leak, either through a hose or other damaged vapor system component, or via a loose, incorrectly installed, or missing fuel cap. A stuck closed purge control valve, which, during the self-test, will produce fuel tank pressure readings exactly the same as a vapor leak. A close valve that does not seal properly, allowing air to be sucked into the fuel vapor system during the self-test. Blockage in the line to the fuel tank pressure sensor, causing it to not see variations in tank pressure.

That is taken from Michael on fixya. I google the codes and that came up..

My check engine light came on my 02 SantaFe, what can i do?

Have the codes read to find out the fault code that triggers the light. Go to a mechanic, or your local auto parts superstore and have them check it. Hope this helps.

I have a 1997 hyundai elantra and i have three code problems what are they and what do i need to do to fix them. p0422, p0442,p0446

P0422 - Catalyst below threshold.

Catalytic converter is clogged or out of medium.

Replace it.

ACTUAL DIAGNOSTIC:

Fault Code Definition
Code P0422 indicates that the Bank 1 Main Catalytic Converter's emissions efficiency has fallen below the minimum allowable limit. This threshold is tracked by a Catalyst Monitoring Oxygen Sensor located on or near the outlet of the Catalytic Converter.

Symptoms

* Check Engine Light will illuminate
* In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed

Common Problems That Trigger the P0422 Code

* Defective Catalytic Converter
* Engine misfires have damaged the Catalytic Converter
* Internal engine damage resulting in high oil consumption and/or a leaking Head gasket has damaged the Catalytic Converter

Common Misdiagnoses

* Oxygen Sensors are replaced when the real problem is a damaged Catalyst
* Catalyst is replaced when the real problem is internal engine damage, which is producing elevated emissions levels
* Catalyst is replaced when a misfiring engine is the real problem

The check engine light stays on or comes back on when doing smog test. It passed everything on the smog test except check engine light. The indicator code is P0446.

Hi:
Your P0446 code is a Evap vent valve code: Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
copyscape.gif Symptoms There will be no obvious symptoms to driver, other than MIL illumination.
Causes A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions With a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

2002 hyundai elantra gls . low idle speed, check engine light on, and doesn't shift out of low gear . ( 50,000 ) miles

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.
