Brakes fade when coming to a final stop 1998 Chevrolet silverado

Brakes stop well except when coming to a final stop, the pedal seems to drop ever so slightly and sometimes the anti lock activates. Brakes all look good the fronts are ceramic and about 6 weeks old.

when i hit the brake they work until about 10 miles an hour the abs kicks in for no reason, Is this a sensor problem? No codes came up or no fuses are blown. What should I check?

This is the coming problem with '98 chevy trucks. abs system failure. you might need to replace complete abs unit and properly bleed your brakes. before you replace abs control unit you should pull the abs codes.

2001 Silverado 2500 HD Why Rear brakes don't work after I installed new hydro-boost power booster, master cylinder, calipers, and pads. I bled master cylinder before installing, and brakes beginn

Hello Patricia,

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

Loose breaks when almost stopped

Does your brake pedal hold pressure when just pressing down while stopped? If not, the bleeding has not released all of the air yet...or the master cylinder is bad...my thoughts are still the bleeding of the lines or you would have noticed the fading pedal before attempting to drive. Be sure to bleed at each wheel cylinder bleeder valve. You must start at the right rear, then left rear, then right front, last the left front. You did not mention why you were changing some of the brake lines? Your Silverado does not sound old enough to need this unless you had under body collision, or unusual rust present. Hope this helps.

Rear brakes not working proper. I have never liked the brakes on my 2500 chevy pickup. I bought the truck second hand. I have since replaced the front pads twice. The front pads were gone in 18,000...

e-brake pedal should go farther- is either out of adjustment or cable frozen- secondly sounds like only front brakes receiving enough pressure to "activate" properly- bleed all four brakes starting rear pass, then rear drive ,then front pass, then front drive- use plenty of fluid- bleed till fluid is clean without bubbles- will that long at first- this will insure not bubbles and no moisture- if a pro valve dies, you would have more problems- pedal would be really soft, would have both a brake light and abs warning lights

if you have abs the electic noise you hear is most likely coming from the abs modulator. as for the rear brakes intermittently locking up, the most common problem is overadjusted rear brake shoes, under adjusted rear brake shoes, or excessive brake dust inside the drums.
