It sounds to me like you have a hole or cracks in your airbag. The dealership typically diagnoses it as the compressor but that is only to keep you coming back and wasting more money on something that will never truly be fixed. The airbag is the problem now but the compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag will kill the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. This is a PERMANENT fix. I added the link below so you can check it out.

I hope I was of some help

Good Luck!!!

The back end is lower than the front end, like the shocks are broken, maybe something about an air shock?

Looks like it.
Go to each corner of the car, press it down as much as you can and let go quickly. The corner should bounce up a little, down a little and then stay at the mid point - that is a 1.5 bounce. If the car is bouncing more 1.5 times or doesn't bounce at all, then the shock at that corner is bad and need to be replaced.

Shocks don't have a valve for the driver to fill with air. They need to be replaced with new ones.

Based on what you describes, the back corners will not press down and of coarse will not bounce - a definite shocks problem that need to be replaced.

I added air shocks to my 1995 lincoln town car because the air suspension bags died. what pressure should they take and do they lose air so you have to add air?

The Stock Air Bags self Leveled, your new System should have come with PAperwork or is there a Air Nozzle that you have to fill? The Bags should come with a Pressure Window for a Firmer Ride or Softer Ride.

2001 expedition air suspension 2 front air bags work and rear only one works what can it be

The best solution is to replace the air shocks with
the conventional conversions, offered by several
companies

Brand New or Older Navigators or Expeditions are not
worth the expense of diagnosing those systems, time
& time again

Most people like the ride of the conversion

Check all the big shock names on the internet

there should never be a leak in the system at all when the car starts the compressor should run once about 5 to 15 second to check for leaks
if longer than that you are headed for bigger problems

When i hit some uneven pavement, I can hear my back struts, kind of sounding like they need to be oiled. My check air suspension light came on, and stayed on for about an hour. It has not been on since. ...

there is a couple of questions that actually need answers prior to a diagnosis such as one of them is do you ever turn your vehicle off and still here your compressor come on to prime your ar bags if so i would recomend replacment of the air bags on the rear your vehicle has shocks on the rear not struts the air suspension is a seperate unit on this vehicle it doesnt have air shocks but shocks and air bags over extending air bags can blow them and cause small leaks if you do not hear the compressor coming on check you rear sway bar you might need rear sway barr links or bushing which is not a huge repair expense and also sometime what you might think is comeing from the rear of your vehicle might actually be comeing from the front have your swaybar in the from checked as well

Go to dealer and have them run self test and provide you DTC codes. Should be 1/2 hour labor time. Report back on DTC, Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Also, get some dish soap & water mix and pour or brush on all connections, hoses, solenoids, etc in rear first. Look for bubbles for a small leak.

DOES 1996 LINCOLN HAVE AIR BAGS IN FRONT? IS IT HARD TO CONVERT THE REAR TO SPRINGS?

No. The Lincoln Continental does not have air bags in the front. It is not exactly hard to convert the rear airbags to springs. It is more time consuming than anything. I have a 1996 Town Car, I had a mechanic replace the air shocks with springs.

I have a 2001 Expedition, I don't have air bags in the front, the compressor don't work the air shocks. You have rear leveling. When they replaced the (compressor) did they turn the leveling switch back on. you may have air shocks connected to the compressor. Did the rear go down right after or over a couple of days. If the switch is on, turn it off and jack the rear up quiet a bit, make sure both side are quiet equal with each other, like it would be if it where raised by the air bags. Turn your level switch back on with it jacked up or sitting on stands. It may have went down so much that the compressor can't raise them back up.
