I have to top up my radiator because the engine is overfilling the water resevoir. The temp gauge tells me its normal temp & i havent noticed it overheating. one mechanic suggests head gaskets?..but he has lied to me before. Any suggestions?

change the sending unit to the fan, if that doesnt work check for power too the fan or even a bad fan

My girlfriend has a 91 sundance. I solved that prob by doing a coolant flush and replacing the radiator cap. The gasket was torn to shreds on the cap

I dont think you have an head gasket problem.Check that your therostat is working.Try running the engine without it.Or replace it.I would like to now a little moore about this problem,You dont give enough detail on it.

OK FIRST YOU NEED TO BUY A CHEM HEAD TEST KIT AT AUTO PARTS STORE VERY EASY TO USE. IT WILL TELL YOU IF YOU HAVE A BAD HEAD GASKET. IF YOU KEEP OVER HEATING IT WILL HAVE A WARPED HEAD. WHEN THE HEAT ON THE ENGINE GETS TO 224 DEGREES THE FAN SHOULD COME ON.YOUR MECH SHOULD BE ABLE TO TURN THE FAN ON WITH HIS COMPUTER.MAKE SURE FAN COMES ON IF NOT THAT ISSUE HAS TO BE ADDRESSED FIRST RELAY IS A GOOD GUESS. BUT COOLANT SENSOR FUSES AND OTHER THINGS ARE INVOLVED. BACK TRACK FOR FAN BACK IF YOU TURN A/C ON FAN SHOULD COME ON.

Pressure test the cooling system. The head gasket possiblity can be tested with dyes, or testing for exhaust gases in the cooling system.
What happens in this case is combustion gases escape into the cooling system and push coolant out, usually when under load, driving...If this is what is happening, the fix can be fairly costly.

Thanks for all solutions guys..Re head gaskets- he did perform the dye test but said i can keep driving it as long as keep water up. There is no water in oil nor oil in water. i had similar prob a few months ago but turned out to be radiator cap. Am tempted to do the check on thermostate/
