I have over 75k miles on my 2006 Mazda Tribute. A while back my gas pedal began to stick while going at a very low speed. Eventually, it stopped but recently the gas pedal just got completely stuck while I was at a dead stop. I had to apply a lot of force to get unstuck.
Any suggestions on what this could be? I hate to bring it in to the dealership because if it is something simple that my husband can do we can surely save lots of money. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Locate the cable from the motor. disconnect, hold up high spray wd-40 into cable, lots cause you want it to run all the way through
There is a "butterfly" valve that gets stuck on gas deposits in the throttle body. Remove the rubber intake hose and find the butterfly valve. The gas pedal moves the butterfly. Sparingly spray carburetor cleaner around the edge of the butterfly and wipe out carefully with a lint-free cloth. Allow to air dry. Operate the gas pedal to move the butterfly to see if it is still sticking.
I took my in about 45000 miles and they replaced the throttle body. I know someone else who have the same car and they had to have the same thing done. Now it is at 70000 miles and it is doing it again. It has to be a defect....
