Car overheated and quit now will not start

The car wanted to die but I kept going by just keeping the rpm's up.It started rattling like a car does when it is overheating. The temperature guage said the temp was normal and did not show it as hot. Steam came out from under the hood and the car quit. The steam came from the radiator overflow that threw water onto the battery and engine. The car will turn over but will not start. How can I check to see if I killed it or not. And if I didn't kill it what should I do to start troubleshooting the problem. I figure if I can get it started than I can find the overheating problem.

Sounds like it overheated and blew a head gasket. Pull the plugs and see if one or more are wet or full of water. Hopefully it did not warp the heads. I wish you luck.

Whats wrong with Helen?

The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.

Jeep was overheating, Now leaking transmision fluid and won't start

I don't see how leaking transmission fluid would be connected to the engine overheating, unless the radiator blew up.
You'll need to figure out why it won't start to proceed.
Check for spark and fuel pressure, and of course compression.
Is the check engine light on ?

1992 chevy truck wanting to run hot and then gets rough idling like it is going to die out have to give it gas

So you attack the overheating problem first before you blow an engine.

Thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, blockage in cooling system or low coolant level are some of the possibilities.
Is the gauge showing hot when it is overheating ?

I would suggest going to a auto parts store like AuotZone and have system check. They will do it for free. You also may want to try disconnecting the POSITIVE CABLE and not the NEGATIVE it will die when you disconnect the ground.

Were there any water leaks into the interior? Or did you ever jump start someone else's car? I had the same exact problem resulting from jump starting a friend's car. It spiked the electronic control unit (ECU) computer. I changed the ECU and the problem was fixed.

Car wont start after stalling on freeway

Check alternator voltage @ battery while car is @ idle, it should be charging @ 40 amps. Sounds like a voltage issue. I would start there.
