Rattle when accelerating and starting up

Every time the van is started there is a loud rattle right off the bat, idles smooth but rattles more loudly the higher the RPMs go. from what I have read it could be a loose heat shield, bad gas, or a bad Cad. converter. any suggestions?

Not without knowing exactly where the noise is coming from.

Noise seems to be directly under the gas peddle, can actually feel the rattle when pressing on the ges peddle.

Lifters lack oil/ lubrication. engine warms up oil flows better. Change oil now and go to 5W30 synthetic.

SOURCE: it rattles when in parked and in reverse

It may be just a exhaust hanger broke loose. Exhaust vibrating against the hanger. IF not then the inside of the converter may be damaged.

SOURCE: Will a bad water pump cause a big rattle?

Yes, it could be, if bearing are bad in the water pump, but more then likely would also be leaking water (coolant), have your other pulleys also checked.

What could the rattle be in my 2005 Grand Marquis?

Likely a loose heat shield. Trace the exhaust system from the engine to the back, check all heat shields to be tight and not bent close enough to exhaust or body to cause the rattle while running.

Loud rattle sound when Idling

I suggest you have your car checked as soon as possible - while a rattling exhaust isn't desperately urgent it could be the cat breaking up which might later restrict the flow of gases. Most importantly excessively loose timing belts or chains tend to make most noise when the engine is idling. If the noise is being caused by this delay could be very expensive.

Rattle when decelerating or sometimes in idle

you need to be very cautious as this culd very easily be mistaken for a loose rod insert...around 2200 rpm hold the idle steady and see if you here a rattle. Then do it again increase slightly then decrease slightly...if you still here it, its possible an insert has came loose from oil run too low or high mileage wear and tare on the crankshaft..if you love it fix it if you dont trade it quickly...GOD bless

My 2004 Prius has a rattling metallic sound on acceleration. It is coming from the top of the engine on the passenger side. Does anyone know what this can be?

Does the car make this sound when the car has just been turned off and engine is still hot? Lightly push the car back and forth while it's in park. Does it still make that sound?

Loud squeaking and rattling when you accelerate after a stop

Is the underside rusty? If so, take it to a qualified welding and autobody repair shop to have new metal welded on.

Your symptoms sound like the engine or transmission mounts may have deteriorated.

Engine Rattling

Try checking the heat shield on your exhaust system. You should have one over the manifold and one over your cat converter under the car.
