My toyota lucida 3C diesel is operating without a thermostat, can it cause over heating problems that i am getting?

no year car told nor miles on it. 1990 to 2019, no country told.
2.2L oil burner.

a Previa variant car. 1990 -1999 wiki said
"The Estima Emina and Estima Lucida were also available with a 2.2-liter diesel engine (3C-T and 3C-TE)" w/and ,w/o intercooler.
so you forgot to say full engine name is/was a Turbo and if is
that , does it only overheat on BOOST>?

there is no answer to that, should I questions (but yes)
many engine (means toss coin) STAT pulled cause turbulence to the pump and now the pump impeller messes up and flow decreases.
and if not the temperature runs way too cool 150f is common.hot idle.
180 to 200F is normal.(STAT in place) your auto part store will tell you.
now the list of overheat causes.

1: the cooling system is failing, (alarge list)
clogged radiator,
pump impeller blades rusted to nothing or 1/2 way.
some one forgot to burp the loop of all air. and RAD level cold is way way too low of AF , anti freeze coolant.

2: using water only and not 50% antifreeze, never just water.
3: fans dead rear oif RAD.
4: fan shroud lost. (other owners bad acts)
5: old cars with fan thermal clutch the clutch is bad.
6: fan belt slips at fan or pump. or both, (year car told)
7:old hoses (big) bad and collapsing inside. hidden.
8: side RAD overflow bottle missing or bad or hoses inside and outside missing so every day you run the engine coolant is lost to the ground,.
9: bad head gasket engine burns coolant or far worse engine cracks
10 head in engine cracked, or just warped.
I-4 engines have no valley gasket so it is not leaking V6/v8
11: and coolant lost to ground, front passenger foot wells
12: coolant lands in Oil pan ,oil looks like milk chocolate.
i'm sure missed, 5+ more points of leak failures. sure.

09 Captiva turbo diesel is leaking oil on. Turbo to engine is it a seal or something more thanks

there are two oil lines to the turbo
one line is a pressure line that delivers engine oil at pump pressure to the turbo
the other is a low pressure line that drains the oil back to the sump
determine which line is leaking and replace or fix and replace the gaskets or "O" rings

Peugeot 308 low oil pressure and loss some power

Low oil pressure starts from oil pump sounds like its blocked either in the pump filter or galleries in the enging. I would first call the dealer and check what filter system is on the pump which may require removal of the sump to replace or clean.

I would certainly not use a car with this problem as it could well cause engine failure. Try a good quality flush first and run the car for 20 minutes minimum on tick over. Remove and put a good quality oil in and do another oil change again if required a month later with a flush to make sure the gunge is out.

If this does not help do an oil pressure test and see what it comes out at checking the manufacturers recommended pressures. If you have changed the oil, pump filters and done a second oil change and still get low pressure then you may well have a faulty pump.

I would also check the oil pressure switch to make sure it s not giving a false reading. The loss of power sounds like Turbo failure and again dirty oil to the Turbo oil feed pipes could be restricitng flow, hence why regular flushing oil and filter change is important.

I would get the Turbo checked out same time as on this model it could well be a Turbo and engine change if its gone that far due to the metal particles contaminating the engine.

How is my turbo lubricated? Is there a reservoir or is it lubed internally?

It's lubricated via engine oil. Your engine oil circulates through it.

My toyota 3C turbo diesel engine the turbo compressor is flooding of oil . I can.t trace where it is coming from That is why I am searching service manual for this turbo charger. 12ct

Hi,

If your turbo housing is getting flooded with oil the it can only come from the shaft seal on the inside of the turbo.

You will need to remove it and replace the shaft seal.

The car was being driven, started to smoke severely through the exhaust and just quit. It's a gas turbo. Is it common for these to fail?

the turbo has oil seals in it that can just leak a little oil at first and then for no reson they just blow out and the oil presher pumps engine oil into the engine inlet manyfold what happens then is you loos all the engine power and it smokes like mad,,, sounds like a new turbo needed,,,,

How to test the high pressure oil pump?

If you have no oil pressure on the dash gauge you need to drop the tin sump under the engine and check the two oil pick up pipes in there . They crack and fall off or the seal goes hard letting in air so no oil pumps. An known fault on the 3.0
The long one is for the engine oil lube ( turbo ) and the short one is for the injection system .
The high pressure pump is only for the injectors.
If you have good oil pressure on the dash gauge then I agree with Guru Ronaldbrains the turbos are poor but ! its 5/30 oil in 3.0 4JX1 engine or you will have starting troubles .

(TOYOTA SURF 1990 TURBO DIESEL) No diesel coming out of fuel pump

If it has glow plugs or an intake heater you will need to disable the circuit. Then you can use a small amount of ether to spray into the air cleaner.!!! If you spray too much and/or Dont disable the circuits you can damage the motor!!! When you spray the ether, if the engine starts and stalls then its not getting fuel. This could be related to the fuel pump, injection pump, the fuel system loosing its prime(fuel line leak), fuel shut-off valve or solenoid. If it doesn't start then it could be related to your timing, valves or maybe compression.
