This m/t has very complex shift linkage.
you should by a real FSM for the car and see the many long pages on topic there,
the words just for the lever are here

  1. At the console, loosen the gear shift control housing nuts and the guide plate bolts.
  2. Adjust the guide plate by displacing it toward the front and rear so that the gear shift control lever is brought in the middle of the guide plate at the right angle.
  3. Once the guide plate is positioned properly, tighten the guide plate bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm) and then the housing nuts to 4 ft. lbs. (5 Nm).

try a real fsm. you wont be sorry ! I promise !

SOURCE: someone put Dexron 2 automatic transmission fluid

I do not think it will. Besides, you have no other choice. The longer you keep running it with the a/t fluid, the worse it will be.
I ran my car without fluid in the differential and I really had to pay the consequences.
My A/T differential calls for A/T fluid, but I used manual trans. fluid for a while(15W90). That was 2 years ago, and the car still runs fine. Now i put the A/T reccomended fluid.
As long as you have some type of lubricant where metal grinds metal, ir is way better than nothing.
Note. what I mean is that you should use the reccomended fluid, but if you used another lubricant, it is not the end of the world.
hope this helps

SOURCE: 1992 Geo Metro w/ automatic. In drive, won't

may be low on fluid as that wont shift the pistons in the valve body of the transmission
due to no fluid pressure!

How do i remove the gear box on my np 200 with out removing the engine

NP200, ,no year told or engine there. told.
np200 is South Africa????
manual transmission REAR WHEEL DRIVE ,right?
no 4wd here right? four wheel drive???????
first we fix or test the clutch actuator.( is it cable or hydraulic ? links to pedal clutch)

we do not pull tranny first, ever.
the clutch tests are first. or 2nd.
also discounting clutch bad a wrong step.
the gear shift is self can be bad,
test1:
brakes off jog the stick to Neutral. have other person move are by hand just doing that can gain neutral foR sure if clutch is bad you CAN. GET NEUTRAL now.
test 2: actuator. (tests)
the actuator most move 1" full inch to disengage the clutch
cable drive or hydraulic.
see it move here click slave strokking, slave cylinder
mC must not leak fluid the clutch slave both not leaking
if cable clutch it loves to fail up inside and most be adjusted correctly to work.\

http://fixkick.com/videos/FLV-all/showtime.html#CLUTCH

OK tranny pull, 101 steps. engine stays.

  • all links and wires to box removed.
  • car on tall jack stands X4 (taller than the bell is !)
  • jack5 real, jack , we jack up engine so it is under control by you.
  • tranny jack 6 under trans + tie downs,
  • drain tranny box GL3/4 lube, etc..
  • drop rear axle if first . (RWD truck)
  • then drop the wide, transmission mounted, cross member
  • so transmission can be allowed to drop, engine jack adjusted too both adjusted for this act.
  • to allow rear of tranny to drop. lower, say 6 to 10 "?
  • this puts a space behind upper bell housing to reach hands up to top bell bolts by hand. (I use long socket extensions too)
  • and last we pull bell bolts bottom up. to prevent damage there.
  • the transmission now slides free of engine and clutch.
  • 4wd is a longer story
  • just did a 4wd 5sp M/T not too long ago.
never assume the actual trans like this is bad.
make sure the clutch actuator is working 100% and adjusted so the zero play strokke(sic) is near 1inch at bell clutch actuator lever.
make sure tranny is not dry ?
make sure top of tranny or the shifter lever is not damaged
some have this $1 plastic shift tip that fails and shifter is loose and worthless, some boxes have top covers that come off and the box can be shifted by hand tools.
like this on some see?
http://fixkick.com/tranny/cheating1.jpg
each top of box is different. and most transmissions made one can shift it hand on directly, this is key first step and the clutch actuator tests to prove the box is bad.
for sure pushing car to get the box into neutral is good step 1.
next time ask this with photo of under car at transmission
we have no np200s here so ,all my answers are generic and
RWD pickup truck advice.(bakkie?)

92 geo metro with automatic transmission will not go out of 1st gear sometimes

my guess is its not electric shifted, (what trans model is it)
so step 2 in the FSM book says.... and i paraphrase
step1 is stall test (my guess passes in 1st and reverse)
step 2, line pressure test?
if that fails, tranny is bad.

Transmission module

automatic transmission, right?
dont shift , impliese but fails to say, by whom.???
on mine a 5speed manual stick, it can't shift by many a way.
ill take a wild guess and its an A/T
Don't shift.

ok, now I scratched head, do you mean
it stuck in 1st gear.
or did you mean its slipping , and feels like in neutral at all times.
or skips gears?

during these early transitional years, they had 2 transmissions
the newer one is electrically shifted.
and going farther we need to know what trans is really truely there.
we are blind here and cant see what you have.
if your car is a TCM shifted tranny (TCM is tranny brain, puter)
it has scan codes. so dump the tcm error codes.

http://geometroforum.com/topic/5011680/1/#new

or log into alldata.com and read the TCM page.
its not a secret , all metro FSM cover this.
fsm means , the Factory service manual. get one.
or log in.

My grandson has a 1997 honda accord, 4cyl, replaced auto tranny, now will operate only in first gear when placed in D4. reverse works ok. will not shift out of 1st gear. can u help. thanks

check the instillation of the transmission shift cable, it needs to be adjusted so that the pawl on the trans case has a full range of motion-put the shifter in neutral, and manually put the pawl in the neutral position (disconnect the cable0-then connect the cable again and bolt it into position.

Can a 1998 4x4 S-10 blazer be dinghy towed?

Yes it can, just place your Transfer Case in Neutral position.
Shifting into NEUTRAL
To shift the transfer case to NEUTRAL do the following:

Make sure the vehicle is parked so that it will not roll.
Set the parking brake.
Start the vehicle or turn the ignition to RUN.
Connect the vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Put the transmission in NEUTRAL (N).
Shift the transfer case to 2HI.
Simultaneously press and hold the 2HI and 4LO buttons for 10 seconds. The red NEUTRAL light will come on when the transfer case shift to NEUTRAL is complete.
Shift the transmission to REVERSE (R) for one second, then shift the transmission to DRIVE (D) for one second, or FIRST (1) for vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.
Turn the ignition to LOCK.
Place the transmission shift lever in PARK (P), or FIRST (1) for vehicles with a manual transmission.
Release the parking brake prior to towing.

Shifting Out of NEUTRAL
To shift out of NEUTRAL:

Set the parking brake and apply the regular brake pedal.
Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL (N) and turn the ignition to RUN with the engine off.
Press the button for the desired transfer case shift position (2HI, 4HI, AUTO 4WD or 4LO).
After the transfer case has shifted out of NEUTRAL the red light will go out.
Release the parking brake.
You may start the engine and shift the transmission to the desired position.
Excessively shifting the transfer case into or out of the different modes may cause the transfer case to enter the shift protection mode. This will protect the transfer case from possible damage and will only allow the transfer case to respond to one shift per 10 seconds. The transfer case may stay in this mode for up to three minutes.

NEUTRAL: Shift the vehicle's transfer case to NEUTRAL only when towing your vehicle.
Good luck and hope this answers your question.
