Water leaking from top of water pump on 1999 88 oldsmobile

Started the 1999 olds 88 up this morning and after about 5 minutes, notice anitfreeze leaking. It looks like it is leaking from the top area of the water pump mating up to the block. Is there a weep hole or other device just above the water pump that could be leaking instead of the water pump? Are there any special tools needed? Does the motor mount need to come off?

Above the water pump, attached to the idler assembly is some sort of water recirculation system with 2 plastic elbows that go into the front engine cover plate. I think (90% sure) the 1 directly above the water pump was broken. The whole assembly has to come off to get both elbows out and back in.

    Sounds like the Water Pump

SOURCE: blower motor removal 1993 olds ciera 3.3

i worked for olds when that car was new. had alot of those motors go bad. you need to remove the p/s pump to do it by yourself-BUT you can remove the engine struts(mounts) and have a buddy(you trust) start the car and out it into reverse, now have him give it some gas so the engine rocks forward so you can remove/replace the motor/fan assy. - like that?
good luck

SOURCE: coolant not circulating

I assume you know that the only circulation happening unti lthe thermostat opens at its nominal temperature is through the heater core if in use. If peering into the radiator opening, you will not see more than the most minimal movement until the thermostat opens.

You may have an airlock in the system and it could be in the heater lines so if you have done a coolant change or had the system open, you need to purge the system of air.
If you have no radiator cap like many newer vehicles, this isn't as easy to accomplish. You will have to pass through several cycles of warmup and cool-down and each time refill the reservoir to the marked level with coolant mix. During this, you will have to have the heater control set to warm the interior so that the coolant is forced to circulate throughout the whole system.

SOURCE: how to change water pump in 2002 alero and a

I suggest that you visit the autozone.com website and register the vehicle. It doesn't cost anything and will give you access to an online repair manual. The steps for replacing the water pump should be available there. Hope this helped and best wishes.

SOURCE: Blocked Weep Hole: Hello. I have a 2000 Ford

The AC evaporator/core condensation drain tube is located on the passenger side of the fire-wall towards the bottom of the fire-wall, (it resembles a heater hose that is coming off from the fire-wall and it connects to nothing, and it is just to drain the AC condensation) and it is easily viewed from under the vehicle. Use long pipe cleaners folded in half to clean out the AC drain, and be very careful that the AC evaporator/core, or the heater core is not damaged from using any hard or sharp objects to clean out the AC drain.

Ok, may i suggest that you check your HEATER COIL, you can located it by pulling up " HEATER COIL" for your specific vehicle, this is what your coolant travels thru while hot and air passes thru this coil to produce the heat to warm your vehicle and typically the heater coils are located on the passenger side. Now as far as the leak location, check heater coil connections it could be the coil itself. GOOD LUCK!

Did you bleed the cooling system after you reinstalled? Chances are high that there are trapped air pockets in the system. Those systems will thump you big time for not bleeding them (sometimes repeatedly) after a water pump change. It's possible, though unlikely, that the head gasket failed. Start by bleeding the system until it is free from air bubbles (heater in car set to max!) and that should take care of it. As for the oil leak, that could be due to the overheating condition you experienced.

My 1996 oldsmobile acheiva is leaking antifreeze but it doesn't seem to be a leak in the radiator. Could my water pump need replacement?

Sounds like the radiator is OK...if you cannot see any visible leaks...if you have inspected upper and lower radiator hoses and connections...it could be the water pump...however you should be able to see some antifreeze around the water pump pulley...changing the water pump on your Oldsmobile is not a major job...you do not have to remove any motor mounts to do this...only if your serpentine belt is worn and needs replacement...your Olds will require the removal of the upper motor mount in order to change the serpentine belt...sounds like you are on the right track...:)

99 Sunfire Coolant keeps dumping

You need to find the source of the leak. it hasn't overheated yet because you keep catching it and re-filling. From your description, it sounds a lot like a bad water pump seal (part of pump) but without physically looking you can't be sure of that. when the pump seal begins to fail, internal pressure while running often will drive the seal tighter against the shaft stopping the leak. as pressure drops as the engine cools, the seal relaxes and permits seepage.
With time, that will change and it will leak all the time.
