Has new cap,rotor,is getting fuel it just truns over and over again i changed the oil because it was full of gas and still wont start it is getting spark and in the right firering order.
I have an 87 fox that won't start. Got good spark, so it must be fuel. The car wants to start but no fuel. I understand that a 87 Fox has 2 fuel pumps. One for the top of the tank and one for the bottom. I know the bottom one died years ago but now I believe the top one has gone. Where can I find it on the car and how can I check. Or do you think it may be something else?

Bad news I am afraid. The oil in your gas is a sign that your piston rings are shot thus letting gas flow down your cylinder walls past the pistons and into your crankcase. There are 3 things that need to occur for your engine to fire- gas and fuel mix, spark needs to be present and you need to compress the air/ fuel mixture. Unfortunately, if it is as bad as you say, then you are getting no compression from your pistons and the air/ fuel mixture is not igniting thus preventing your engine from starting.

why did you change mass air flow sensor ? do you have coil packs, any codes stored in ECM ? something is telling it to go full lean ! ? another sensor, OXYGEN SENSOR, MAP SENSOR ? aftermarket MAF sensors are garbage, you might need a stock , OEM , MAF !!!!!!!!! I would , my 87 buick gn boged when I replaced my MAF , I got a new OEM , STOCK , MAF, exact replacement, it ran wonderful !!!! again !
try changing the igniton module on the distribuitor in most cases it's the problem if you dont want to buy it you can take the ignition module to a autozone and they will check it for free
pull the main plug wire and get a small bolt that fits in the wire and use the intake as a ground with a gap between while someone cranks to check for spark. dont touch the metal it will shock you. if there is no spark check the plugs if they are fouled change plugs, wires, dis. cap and rotor, if they look good and your not getting spark replace the ignition module. now the easy way to see if your getting fuel remove the air intake hose and spray a shot of either or brake clean in the throttle body, if it starts up it is a fuel problem if it doesnt run for a second on either it is a spark issue. if it is a fuel problem start by hitting the bottome of the gas tank with a little force but not to much and try starting it, if it starts you need a fuel pump if not check fuses and see if the relays click and i'd even change the fuel filter
Bought a very reputable diy service manual for the vehicle, and that plus a bit of thought and nous gave me the cure: no intrinsic problem other than loose relay connections. Went round with the wiring diagrams as guide checking all electrical connections in tight and relays fuses etc all good. Switched on and no problem any more.
By the way, vehicle is 1992 VW Polo - not Fox (which in UK is a variant of the Polo)
