I get a metal vibration noise at exactly 40 mph on acceleration and deceleration.

I had similar problem with my 03 trailblazer. It had a low dull hum in the front end with a little vibration being felt in gas pedal. Noise increased over a couple weeks and was louder turning to the left and quiter turning to right. A GM mechanic friend of mine replaced the front right hub and took care of the problem. Hub was about $160 at Autozone.

BUSHINGS! Your bushings need to be replaced. It is probably worse if you are in a turn at 65mph, too.

Could be many a things, for example:
Front wheel bearings
Warped Brake Disc
Worn suspension mounts
CV joint needs replacement
Worn bushes
Worn/bent steering rods
Wheel weight balances have come off and caused irregular wheel balance
Wheels are warped, damaged
Brake pads are worn over the limit
I would really recommend you take it to a professional to take a look. It could be very dangerous to you and other drivers using the road

If the tires are round once checked on a balance machine to be true. Next check the driveshaft is a weight missing, dings or bent, u-joints loose?
Then check the rear ring
