The reostat that controls dome light and dash lighting-meltdown

I have a 2005 toyota corolla.i started the car one mor ning and smoke started pouring out of the reostat ,and also blew 15 amp dome fuse.I put new reostat and fuse in and imediately it started smoking. checked the cable plugged into the reostat and seems ok. i believe there is short somewhere but the wiring diagrams i have dont show voltages associated with the colored wires.when the fuse blew there was no radio or fans. changing the fuse corrected the radio and fans. The melt down only happens when you turn the ignition on.Has anyone ever had this problem before ? i need help and dont want to pay mega bucks to fix it. Any suggestions

As the voltage from the battery drops, the starter will draw more current, which may have caused the fuse fry - more likely, the connection between the fuse and the socket was worn, causing an arc in the socket, effectively welding the fuse to the socket. You can try using a piece of wire to jump across the two silver tabs on the top of the fuse, and seeing if you can start the car, but eventually, that fuse has to come out.

2005 toyota corolla dome light does not come on nor does the clock

The first thing to do is to check the fuses, this sounds like a bad fuse or could be a bad bulb for the dome light and fuse for clock or bad clock. hope this helps.

Radio dome light and alarm dont work

Check the owners manual for the fuse box location. Look to see if a fuse is blown. The same fuse may or may not control radio, dome light and alarm.

I have a 1997 toyota corolla that one of the chimes (seat belt, key ignition or lights) just started dinging and won't stop until the car is turned off.

Get in the car, make sure your dome light is set to door-operation.
Close all the doors, does the dome light go out?
If so, it's not the door ajar chime. If not, one of your door pin switches is defective.
Buckle your seatbelt, does the seatbelt warning light on the dash go out?
If so, it's not the seatbelt alarm. If not, it's the seatbelt buckle receiver.
The light warning works with the key off, so it is not that since turning the car off would not stop it.
Last thing it could be is the ignition key alarm.
I have seen a few malfunction over the years.

Where is the dome light dimmer rheostat on the 2009 Toyota Corolla ? It really screws up my alarm system.

The dimmer for the 2009 Corolla is the right-hand stem in the dash for the trip meters, rotate it to control the dimmer.

2005 Toyota Corolla

This light comes on to rermind you to service the car ( oil, filters ect ) you can turn this off when you start the car by making sure the odometer is showing ( not the trip meters A or B ) and hold in the reset button for the trip meters and turning the ignition switch all the way forward. When this is done the odometer will start to show dashes and when the dashes are gone the light will be reset.
