You will have to take the steering wheel off and the steering collum apart to find the rod that actuates the real ignition switch..the thing you stick your key in..is not really the ignition switch....its just a key tumbler..and it would be best that a professional replace the key tumbler..because it is difficult to drill out..i know this isnt what you wanted to hear..but i hope it helps

How do you remove the ignition switch on a 2003 Dodge Dakota w/standard transmission?

Usually you need to put the key in and turn a little(into the accessory poistion) then use a nail or small screwdriver to push up on the pin under the key cylinder. I had to replace the key on my 2002 Jeep and that was the steps.

Lost key to my 2000 dodge dakota. Can i bust the key lock on it

You will just do more damage to the truck. Go to a dodge dealer, they can make you a key from vehicle ID number.

'96 Dodge Dakota will crank, but won't run.

a bad crank sensor or dist pickup plate can cause this.... check the fuses in the fuse block under the hood for any blown ..... a bad auto shut down relay may cause it .....try putting a test light on the green and orange wire and see if it lights up when you try to crank it

Will not start, no dash gauges light except "low gas level"

I have a '99 dodge dakota, 4 cyl, 5 speed manual. While researching a no start problem ran across possible solution to this problem. If no guage lights show when key truned to on position then normally a bad ignition switch. With fully charged battery and working ignition switch guage lights should slight up then go out when ignition in "on" position. Try shaking the key back and forth.
