Red warning light is staying on when I switch on and drive my 2001 Grand Vitara dashboard (!) - what do i do?

Red warning light has come on to the dashboard - looks like this (!) and stays on when switched on (idling) and when driving along it flickers on and off. Notice that when I remove ignition key the 'beeping' noise continues whilst door is open - normally that noise stops once you remove key from ignition. Is this an electrics or a sensor problem? thanks R

All the above.

i cant see lamp, why not use photos so we dont need to guess, 1000 warning lamps used.

varies by country too. what lamp logos look like.

what it is , who knows? right, lacking a photo.

the key switch tells the warning box when you remove the key.

that buzz left in is the warning, take key out now.

seem the key inserted switch is stuck but id have to see lamp.

so yes that is switch not a sensor, (but sure one could call a switch a sensor.) and sure wires can fail. and connectors.

sure its electric, is sure is not vacuum.

the warning box can worn head lights left on

or exiting car key left in ignition.

do not fool with the key switch on air bag cars or risk death or broken neck with AIR BAGS.

read the manual, see the 1000 warning there.

and the words, DEFEAT the bags using X procedures first.

do so.

SOURCE: Red light on dashboard on Suzuki Escudo (Vitara)

It could mean that some emission-control device has failed or is due for replacment. Common items would be oxygen sensor (not too expensive) and catalytic convertor (pretty expensive).

Have you tried checking the catalytic? This is for filtering the gases from the combustion and can be one of causes of the power failure.

SOURCE: light on ignition switch wont go off

Yes, the current stops flowing through them, even if they don't completely darken. The reason they go out slowly is because the residual heat takes a while to dissipate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOOT OPEN but not open warning light on dashboard say this with red warning light

The sensor is located and probably built into the boot latch. The sensor is good because the light goes off if you close it slowly. the latch is just worn out with that particular part. Replace the latch. It is not hard to replace if you have a few hand tools.

POWER light on dashboard

If it is an automatic transmission, check the rocker switch to the left and above of the transmission shifter. Having it in power mode is best when towing, etc.
