I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban with 145,000 miles. One of the auto-leveling shocks needed replacing. Since the cost was over $1,200 to replace both rear shocks, I opted to install non-auto-leveling shocks for about $400. Unfortunately I now have the "Service Ride Control" light on all of the time.
Is there any way to overide this system so that the light does not come on? I still want the other warning lights to come on if something goes wrong.
I suppose you could try and remove the RTD (real time dampening) fuse.
Under the hood - left side. 4th fuse down from the top.
however if a sensor has failed - the light will remain on.
bypassing it is pretty difficult.
You have to jumper and splice into wires - and you may develop bigger problems later with these splices.
I would recommend leaving it as-is and getting the repair done asap.
There will be no other conditions this light will represent - so dont worry about that.

If the system is override, this will only be a temporary fix as the sensor will come back on after a certain amount of time. Let a mechanic check the shocks to make sure all of the connections are hooked up, as that could also be the problem, would be cheap to repair. Also let them check for broken cords from the shocks. Then they should be able to hook their computer up to the car and override it for a period of time until the problem is completely fixed.
If you honestly ask me, there is no bypass.It would remain on if you go for non auto shocks.
The only way is to go with auto levelling shocks, might be japanese made which might cost you around $350 per piece.

And have you checked whether you need to replace....Sometimes the light might pop up due to faulty suspension sensors.
there is no permanent soultion to this issue.Rest on yours.
