Check Engine light goes on and off

My Isuzu trooper is a V6 2.8L 1990 TBI Gas, Manual Transmission. The Check engine goes on after a few miniutes at idle speed. When the car is driven, the light turns off almost inmediately, The same thing happens when driving down a slope, when you don't have to use the gas pedal. Once you press the gas pedal, the light turns off. I read the computer codes and it indicates that the problem is with the oxygen sensor. I changed it for a new one, but the problem remains.

Thanks!

Thank you, I will follow your advice. I will tell you later.

I could not find the vacuum leak, but I know there is one because the idle speed is high (somewhere between 1000 and 1300 rpm), and while being at idle, if I press the breake pedal for a few seconds, the speed increases even more upon releasing the break. A few seconds later the speed returns to the initial value.

My experience with these isuzu check engine light is that your air gas intake is not being properly regulated what you need to to change out or clean really good your kanooder valve and duflauge sensor. after those two things are taken care of reset your engine light by resetting your engine light relay or fuse.

Run a trouble code test to see what part is causing the check engine light to flash. I would lay my money on an O2 sensor.

sorry did not read your entire post, check for intake manifold vacuum leaks with a can of carb spray (engine idle will change if u have one when the spray hits the leak), also check all vacuum hose's at engine, if u have a MAF sensor clean the inside with MAF cleaner, it is made by CRC. Get back to me if this doesn't clear the issue.

Transmission slipping and light is blinking

check the trans. fluid level. the procedure should be in your owners manual. if you cant find the procedure, a good default is to have it in neutral on a level surface with the parking brake on with the engine running. find the dipstick with "trans" or an icon of a gear on it. if it's low, add fluid. when you add fluid, add about a half a quart at a time. and after every time you add, get in, put your foot on the brake and shift back and forth from park to reverse to neutral, to drive a few times, slowly. if you're unsure of what type of fluid to use, ask the boys at the parts counter. if your fluid is not pink/clear red, you're in trouble. if it's brown, dirty, or has flakes in it, your trans is junk.

Where is the diagnostic plug to get codes from check engine light

The 1990 Isuzu Trooper with a 2.8L GM engine, the diagnostic connector is located directly beneath the coin try in the front of your center console!!
Along with the typical OBD connector is two wires with a spade connector on each, one female and one male. Connect the two wires to display the diagnostic codes on your check engine lamp on the instrument cluster panel.
As for finding out your codes meanings, go to your nearest public library and locate a 1990 Trooper service manual.

Trooper will not excelerate. it only kicks in

the car will not accelerate, check distributor unit, wires, cap and rotor making sure they have clean contact between the pole. test coil making sure you have strong 12V. Check air mass flow sensor, this unit also connected to ECU unit and also control the shifting along with transmission rotation sensor, both work in sync with one another. Check fuel pump for proper pressure my disconnecting the fuel line from the fuel filter, cover the line with a pieces of clothes, using your thumb, apply it on top of the fuel line and have a friend turn engine over, make sure you have the fuel line pointing downward away from your face. feel the pressure of the fuel pump does get weak over time and loose some pressure. if changing replacing fuel pump good idea to also replace fuel pressure regulator. Check fluid in tran mission making sure it has proper oil level. being 1990 im sure it has over 100k, I would have the tranny flush and filter change with new oil. Its good idea to have tranny flush every 75-100k especially SUV. tranny pressure sensor may need replacing, sometime it get clogs up with wast particles from gasket and worn filter. Battery light come on one awhile, have your alternator check, weak or faulty alternator will also cause battery light to come on.

1990 Isuzu Trooper 2.8L V6 Fuel Delivery (Electrical Problem)

Distributor cap compatability

your caps should be fine between a 90 and 91 one thing you should also check is that the kanooder valve on a 90 is different from one on the 91 these would not be compatable they redid the duflage sensor plug that goes from the kanooder valve to the wiring harness. you might need a kanooder valve mod kit these are really cheap you can grab one from checker for about 20 bucks well worth it trust me.

Need engine diagram for a 1990 trooper 2.8 v6

I would go to www. my isuzu parts.com
and view their index. It takes a little getting used to
but you can find oiut where a lot of stuff goes and how it connects.
Other than that go to a library and try to view a Haynes,Chilton
or Mitchell maintenance manual for more specific stuff.
If you go to my isuzu parts besure to notice the tabs at the top of each diagram --they will tell you if the diagram is for
a 4 cyl, a deisel or the v6.
good luck
