Bmw z3 loose wire in steering wheel will not start

Replaced starter, replaced ignition switch. Will not crank. To make it start I need to give the underside of the steering a quick slap with my hand. It will crank and work ok for the rest of the day.

SOURCE: BMW Z3 WRONG UNLOCK RADIO CODE HOW TO GET THE RIGHT ONE

If the radio is displaying code wait, or wait, then the ignition and radio must remain on for 1hour. I would contact a dealer within the USA and provide them with your radio serial number. The serial number can be displayed in the radio by pressing and holding down the "M" button while turning on the ignition.

SOURCE: car steering wheel locked; car won't start

If this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.

Is replacing the ignition lock cylinder the same as replacing the ignition switch?

No. The switch itself is actually farther down on the steering column (nearly to your feet), operated by a rod that is pushed by the lock cylinder. If you're not pretty mechanically inclined, this is not a job for an amateur. Lots of little pieces to lose, etc.

replace the starter and the flywheel-the bad starter has not engaged the teeth on the flywheel fully and has ground some teeth off so you'll fit that space every once in a while-cheers Denny

Brothers truck a 1987 ford f150, the horn and cruise were not functioning and key was not smooth turning from lock to start. Replaced the key ignition, also had removed steering wheel and blinker assembly...

You should replace all the wires that are in that steering column. Use OEM wire harnesses. There is a clock spring wire in that column that is bad, The shift indicator is a clip on a piece of string that moves when the column turns with the shifter.

Old battery would charge but had to charge everytime I drove it. Got new battery and will not crank, what to do?

There's a problem some where in the starter circuit or starter motor /solenoid etc.Check for bad ground frayed cable loose cable
neutral/start switch needs adj. starter pinion jammed. If it started the first time after the new battery and then not the alternator may not be charging. The charging rate should be checked when the battery is replaced. If the headlights are very bright and the radio sounds loud and clear then the battery is not discharged. It should read a full 13volts if tested with a meter.

Why would turning the steering wheel while cranking engine gets my car to start?

The ignition switch in the column most likely has a break in it. So when you move the steering wheel, it moves the wire so it completes the connection when you turn the key. Have the ignition switch replaced.

My 04 bmw ignition doest start

If it doesnot crank at all look for starter/starter relay/starter relay fuse. Most probably wiring coming to starter is loose, try to tighten it more (push towards starter). Also I would check antiteft system (if it is provided for your car) as some BMW have immobilizers.
If it cranks no start look for spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, coolant temperature sensor, O2 sensor, fueling system (fuel pump cutoof switch, fule pump relay, fuel filter).
Please kindly let me know if you need more information, or kindly provide me with more details to assist you better

Engine died and turns over when moving steering wheel left and right

it sounds like your ignition switch is failing and when you turn the wheel sometimes the steering lock pin is jolting the switch and making a momentary contact, you should try turning the key to the on position and jumping a 12 volt signal wire from the battery to the small wire on the starter (only until it starts do not leave this connected constantly) to confirm this is the switch for sure check for 12 volts out of the switch in the start position (it may be intermittent also) good luck and please rate -jeff here is your part click here 2ea336d.jpeg
