Replaced thermostat, still overheats on highway
SOURCE: 1996 Dodge Dakota heater doesn't get very hot only gets warm
it could be the heater controls itself i had a 95 ford f150 that did the same thing i replaced everything i could as i live in upstate ny and in the winter it gets pretty cold so replaced all i could ,heater coil, radiator, thermostat, coolant and nothing a local mechanic told me to check the control in the dash to see if it was going all the way to the hot position. i took the dash apart to get to it and checked it and the cable that mmoves the valve on the heater coil was stretched so it wasnt going all the way to hot. not that its the same thing but its a place to start

did you replace ignition madule? I see you chg. everything else but that. they can be fine when cold, but when they get hot quit working.

follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, drain about 1/2 gallon of coolant and then pull upper hose off at the engine, look inside the metal large nipple, that is the thermostat.

To change the sparks on a 2005 4.7L Dodge Dakota you will need the following:
Note you will have to remove the air intake located at the top of the engine, and will have to move some of the coolant lines out of the way.
At the top of the engine there are 4 sparks on each side. The coils are held in place with a 10mm bolt. Undo the 10mm bolt and unclip the coil. Next pull out the coil.
Insert the socket, with extension into the spark plug hole.
Remove spark plug.
Check the gap on new spark plug, it should match stock.
tighten to approximately 25ft.lbs. (check spark-plug packaging for exact torque requirements).
repeat this process with all other sparks.
be sure that no dirt gets into the spark plug holes.
