SOURCE: #5 cylinder misfire

I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.

Check for

vacuum leaks on intake manifold,

the air tube between the air filter.

intake manifold vacuum hose.

===
clean throttle plate with Berryman carburator cleaner

SEE sample picture HERE
===

Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.

===

Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.

More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.

Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.

At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.

The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.

Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

===

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.

You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.

Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.

Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.

Remove the EGR valve.

Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.

SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.

You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.

RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.

One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.

Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.

Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.

Take it for a test drive.

SOURCE: jaguar s-type restricted performance

I had the same problem. Restricted performance and running rough at 3000 RPM. I have an OBDII code reader and found that the problem was in the air mass flow sensor, which is just after the air filter. I pulled this out and found it was dirty and had butterfly wings in it. The last shop where I had the oil changed replaced the filter for me but put in the wrong size. Close but no cigar. Bought some *** Flow Sensor cleaner at auto store and fixed the problem. Get an OBDII reader with the ability to erase the codes. Comes in real handy.

I have 03 jaguar s-type with engine symbol and dash reads restricted performance

You need to go and have any fault codes diagnosed. The jag dealership is probably the best option.

The symptoms you describe could be attributed to a faulty oxygen sensor or blocked catalytic converter

My 2003 jaguar s stype v8 started to shake from the engine while parked and stopped at a red light and my check engine light starts blinking and restricted performance light comes on

run the fault codes to look for injector problems
check injectors for bad tips
check fuel pressure to injectors
check for vacuum leaks with the foot on the brake ( booster leaks --check by applying the hand brake with the foot off the brake and if the problem is not there it is the brake booster faulty)

My 2003 jaguar s stype started to shake from the engine while parked and stopped at a red light and my check engine light starts blinking and restricted performance light comes on

You probably have a mis-fire. One of the cylinders has either a bad spark plug or faulty coil. This should get looked at as soon as possible before it ruins the catalytic converter. Someone with a code scanner can at least narrow down where the mis-fire is.

Restricted performance light came on after emissions testing and the car cannot be driven at speeds above 45 MPH without lurching. Do you know what happened with testing? Thanks. Walt Drubka

disconnect the battery and join the pos and neg cables together ,leave for a cup of tea and a ciggy then try again .this trick cures lots of faults on this model jaguar which is really a ford mondeo unlike my XJ4.0 straight six .Also go to www.jec.org the jaguars owners club web site ,

its sounds like its between the oxygen sensor..and your throttle body sensor..Normally the difference between the oxygen sensor it will display all these things except the dsc mil.Make sure that you dont wash the engine caompartment near the firewall,this can lead to water getting into the TBS and cause the sensor to go bad,and also near the MAF in the air cleaner elbow.Water can short this sensor.But intermitant restricted performance can show do to a knock sensor malfunction also it will code p0327 or the oxygen sensor.Go by Antozone let them scan the car for codes and freeze frame data.The Actron obdii scanner does well with Jaguars.

2003 Jaguar S Type R 4.2L SC. Check engine light on with rough idle and computer statement stating that performance is restricted, engine will not exceed 2500 rpm? Any Hints?

Rent a scanner, read out any code(s), and pursue to repairs. It may be as simple as bad spark plugs and wiring, or worse, fuel problems from the injectors back to the fuel tank. A worn O2 sensor can cause improper fuel/air problems.
