1999 intrepid just stopped. Tried to start but wouldn't. Ok, I disconnected the cam positioning sensor and the car started and runs. It takes about 5 seconds of cranking because the crankshaft sensor needs to find the signal. The car lopes at high rpms. As long as the cam sensor is disconnected it runs but as soon as I connect it it won't start.
Hi, I put in a new crank and cam sensor and it still does the same thing. When I jiggle the cam sensor connector the fuel pump
relay clicks on. Hi, I put in a new crank and cam sensor and it still does the same thing. When I jiggle the cam sensor connector the fuel pump

Thanks for the help. I replaced both the cam sensor AND
the crank sensor but it still will not start if I plug in the
cam sensor. Also, if I plug in the cam sensor and turn
the key to the on position and jiggle the cam sensor
connector, the fuel pump relay clicks.

The 2.7 had alot of problems with the cam sensor. I would start there. Its located on the front top of the timing cover. Unplug it and see if it "Pops" attempts to start.
Unhook the TPS connect a volt meter between the purple wire and a good ground. Key on engine off. If it reads 5v then replace TPS. If not the leave meter hooked up and unplug the MAP (front of engine on upper intake). If meter now reads 5v then replace MAP. If not then hook up that plug and unhook the EGR (back top of engine under the throttle body). Check and if need repeat with the A/C press. transducer (3 wire sensor in A/C hose near compressor). All of these share a sensor feed from the PCM. the most likly problem is a short in the MAP but a short in any of these sensors can cause the problem you describe.
May be I can help.Be sure to check all fuses, really good, before replacing parts.I can`t tell you how to check for problem, you have pretty much narrowed it down already, but replace the crank sensor first(least expensive) cause it is most likely the problem. Then really all you are left with is cam sensor,or control module. The car will most likely will run,and run good if the cam sensor is bad,but it will not start. If the car stopped running while engine was running, then the cam sensor most likely isn`t the problem, replace the control module.IIf the engine was not running, and you went to start it and it wouldn`t start, try a cam sensor. If I can help any more, let me know>>[email protected]
I don't know if you have a coil pack or spark plug wires but this is what you need to check for the miss you can also try this website if needed for diagrams and instructions autozone.com or your local library
