Code po740 2000 Dodge Stratus 100,000 miles check engine light started flashing on and off and then engine shut off. Few minutes later was able to start car back up. Now car will start but within driving for a few minutes it shuts down again. Brought to Auto Zone and this is the code po740. torque converter clutch no rpm drop @ lock up condition 1. low fluid 2. poor fluid 3.defective toque conv. clutch 4. internal trans. fluid What does this mean? And whats the best thing to do. Thanks for the help.

Change coils,fuel filter and check the code.

You need to get the engine trouble codes by performing the "keydance" or using a code reader, then start checking fuel pressure at pump and regulator. Best luck. Amclaussen.

If you mean the check engine light is on when the engine is running, I would start there and have the computer scanned for trouble codes.
Without knowing what is shutting down it will be tough to troubleshoot.
Could be a relay or coil or any number of other things.
If there are no codes in the computer, I would look for a failing relay. A sensor should set a code.

Engine cranks - battery and starter ok. Check for fuel flow. I have seen fuel pumps go out like shutting off a light switch. Shut the car off and just 10 minutes later car will not start because fuel pump failed.

If the engine is a 2.4 L SFI 4 Cyl, the schedule is every 105,000 miles. I do recommend 90,000 to 100,000 miles is the best time to replace.

you may have had a timing belt brake. this usually happens under a load. I've seen this a few times,if you are between 80,000 and 100,000 miles or higher and the timing belt has not been changed. (a way to tell if it is the timing belt is to remove a valve cover and crank the engine if the rockers don't move the crank is not turning the cam/cams and its probably a broken timing belt) it may be that, or it may be an issue with the ignition/spark system if your getting fuel at the engine.i hope this helps

disconnect the battery for a few minutes. could have been just a control module locked up. (modules in cars can freeze just like pc's)

first check the spark plugs wire, and distributor cap and rotor.

check the alternator it could be draining the battery

Best place to start is with "check engine light". Put vehicle in park, foot on brake, and cycle key on, off, on, off, on, then wait with pen & paper ready to read flashes of check engine lamp. Will be a 2 digit code each time. For example, flash, short pause & flash, will be 11, or flash, flash, short pause, flash, flash would be 22. In between trouble codes you'll get a little longer pause, then it will start to flash again if more than one code, which is quite possible.
