I have a 1990 Ford Probe LX (3.0 L) with non powered doors or windows, I ran across a 1989 LX (2.2L) with powered doors and windows so I snagged them; Little did I know the wiring harnesses are slightly different. I went back to the junk yard and cut off the original harness clips (for the doors) and spliced them onto my 1990 harness; now the windows and door locks do not work, but the switches do activate the relays.
** Some things I noticed **
The 1990 door locks according to the wiring diagram in the Chilton shows 3 wires, but the 1989 door lock has 2 (GRN/BK & BL/R ... I think)
I have the following wires left over: W/R, BK, GRN/Y.
The W/R wires, R/W, and BK/GRN are for the Door lock system, but I don't know what to do with the 3rd wire. (W/R)
The power windows were pretty straight forward, those two harness clips matched up exactly so I assumed they would just work.
Has anyone tried to do this conversion before with success? Is it possible my regulators are bad? maybe relays? I assume the door lock relay is not bad because it is also used for the seat belts and they work. Please help!!!
Cheerz!
Matt
About the only advice i can give is that i did the same thing with a 94 probe base and a 94 gt. i had to take the whole wiring harness out of the gt and put it in the base. It starts from the inside fuse block, goes to both doors, under the front seats, all the way to the fuel pump, abs, tail lights, and pretty much everything from the dash to the rear of the car. If you can get a whole harness, it should work.
