The ECM on my 2002 nissan sentra gxe is located on the left side of the firewall if you're standing in front of the car. It's easy to get to and remove, just a few bolts and a harness. The problem is in finding a replacement. Not many of the rebuilders want to deal with this model as they get a lot of returns. Seems Nissan put a foam liner inside the ecm and even if taken out early there were problems as the glue used to hold the foam caused bad problems with the board in the ecm. There was a recall so if your car wasn't fixed you may get an ecm at no cost.

my 2002 sentra gxe 1.8L would shut off intermitenly while driving but would always start up again so I left it alone, until one day , it would crank over but not fire. I replaced the cam position sensor , then the crank position sensor , still didn't fire. I figured out that there is no injector pulse or ignition to the plugs since the cam and crank sensors were replaced the ECM is bad. Then I went online to find the location of the ECM so I could get replacement and low and behold found out about the recalls on the crank sensor and the ECM insulation by accident i might add!!! Never got a recall notice from nissan , bought the vehicle new, i was pissed. Next step was to call nissan consumer affairs at 18006477261 they said have the car towed to a dealership and have the recalls closed out, so im now waiting on nissan to authorize payment for the repairs, if they don't GAURENTEED auto parts has a replacement for 250.00 this is my plan "B" their # is 18007633211
