The whole dash bezel has to come off but are all the dash lights out? if so check the switch for dash lights on a 01 it is built into the turn signal handle I think check it to make sure it's not set to off for dash lights

How to replace dashboard lights

You need take off the instrument cluster; remove 3 screws above instrument panel cluster holding dash pad for open the glove box and remove 2 screws holding dash pas.

Remove dash pad pulling up to unsnap end clips. With driver's door open, remove 1 screw from the side of the lower trim panel. You have all details in ZJ-Secc-8E-Instrument-Cluster-and-Gauges (page 21 and next).

How do I access dash lights on '98 Grand Cherokee?

Remove 4 screws from bottom of lens; lift lens off from bottom.
Pull trip reset knob off and remove mask by liftng from bottom. Mask is snapped in along the top.

Also, can fin more details and graphics in the ZJ-Secc-8E-Instrument-Cluster-and-Gauges

You have to remove the panel to check onthe connections behind it, also check the headlights switch, they tend to burn out.

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.

Try replacing the crankshaft sensor sounds like thats your problem if not the fuses or relays still no luck them you might have pcm problems....
