If you're finding it difficult to service/repair your car, get one of those online manuals. You'll not have to wait for others
to answer, or rely on mechanics and all. Plus i know a website that has very good manuals online, without expiry i.e. for lifetime. www.reliable-store.com
Assuming it is an automatic. With engine idling, put transmission thru all gears, put back in park, keep engine running, check dipstick for tranny. If it is a manual then you have to crawl under car and remove upper "fill" plug on gearbox, fluid will be up to that level. NOTE: unless your tranny leaks it should never be low!
Have the tranny serviced with fluid change and filter, if noise it still there it is the torque converter . Have the dealer fix it ,and have it on paper with dealer invoice when it is done. Do all this before warranty expires. IT IS NOT USUAL for any car, Toyota included, to have tranny whine!!!!!
Does your Mazda have a standard trans (clutch), or automatic. If it's automatic, the tranny might be slipping, and if it's a standard shift the clutch may be slipping. Does the actual driving speed (not engine rpm's) seem to stay the same when this happens? If you are still traveling at the same speed even though the engine speeds up, it's your tranny or clutch. I don't think the timing belt and tensioner have anything to do with this. countrycurt0
