I also had a problem identifying what exactly failed when I got this message. All the lights seemed to be fine. Then I remembered: on the ignition key/remote control there is a button for parking lights that light up the car so you can identify it. I turned it on and after a close inspection, a tiny light on the side of the rear lamp assembly, on the right side of the car, didn't work. And the car posted a persistent alarm notice about it. Duh.

If all of the bulbs are working you may have the wrong bulbs installed. Usually the taillamp bulbs are a 5 watt bulb.

For some reason every once in a while you find a S60 or S80 that uses a 4 candle power bulb instead.

If you put a 5 watt bulb in a 4 candle power car it will still set the light.

I'm sorry, butI don't know if you can find the other bulbs aftermarket or not.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: My xc70 Volvo shows a message "bulb failure

"position light" is a rear parking light which has failed or become unseated. Sometimes you can knock on the tail light housing and they will come back on, but they burn out shortly after regardless.

These and the low beam headlamps fail very frequently on these cars so you should become familiar with the replacement procedures.

What is bulb position light failure? what is whistling noise mean once the car warms up

Bulb position light failure indicates that you have a burned bulb somewhere around the car. Check all of them. Brake lights, parking lights, flasher and so and so.

This is a very common problem with Volvo.

You could alo get this problem eventhough no bulb is burned. If it's the case, test each bulb contact in their socket playing with them. Make sure you put some electric grease on contact replacing the bulbs.

Check if there were a recall for your specific vehicule and if it has been done on yours. I know that during the years, some recalls were adressing this type of problem.

Regarding whistling noise during warm up try to remove oil filling cap during engine is running. if the noise stops it's probably the PCV that is blocked and need to be replaced. If it doesn't fix it, let us know and we will go more in depth.
Hope it helped

Bulb Failure position option

the position bulbs are located in the trunk and you access them the same way you access the tail lights im not sure what the bulb does but its a 10 dollar fix. FYI when you replace the bulb the message center will still tell you that it has failed you have to take it to the dealer to have them to erase the message (i just left mine it seemed a waist of money)

I have a fault - parkling bulb failure

I believe the parking lights are the lights that come on when you move the headlight switch to the middle setting. My S60 has 3 settings for headlights, daytime running lights (off or 9 o clock position), parking light (middle or 10:30 position), and lights on (top or 12 o clock position). Put your light switch into the middle position and check the lights from the front of you car. They are usually located on the side of the headlights and are orange. If the fault is on, you have a bulb out (most likely) or loose wire connection (not as likely).

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

These are Dual Function Bulbs. They control the Parking Lights and the Brake Lights. This Bulb is Burnt out on the Brake Coil inside the Bulb. I have actually seen Bulbs that were Bad But you could not Tell by jast looking at them. It should be fine with a New Bulb. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
