Need help to replace the serpintine belt on my 1999 dodge grand caravan. tried the belt per the diagram on the engine compartment
but i could not get the tensioner down far enough to put the belt over the pully. tried two belts that were matched with the one that came off.
now the tensioner pully bolt has gotten striped and it looks like i have to replace the tensioner. does anyone have the procedure to remove and replace the tensioner? if so please help.
My best result is by putting the belt on the idler pulley last.
Edit a video on this job. That is right you do not have to remove the alternator! You go in from underneath. Here’s a video on the job that I made about a week ago.Works for 1998, 1999, 2000 & 2001 Dodge Caravan’s, town and country and grand Voyager’s. https://youtu.be/CrG8vBuy4xE
Route the belt over the big pulley first as you route to the rest of the pulleys the last one should be to the tension pulley guide the belt half way on the tension pully pull the belt with your hand as if the belt is turning with engine. make sure belts in the groves of each pulley.
Yes you must jack the vehicle up put it on jack stands for safety, and around the power steeirng pump under neath you will see the nut that is holding it you will need a long extension and a swivel.
should be 15, 14, or 13 mm
when installing the belt itself, you must put it on the idler pulley last that is the other smooth pulley, otherwise it will be a bear to get on. good luck.
