My low beams won't work on my 2001 Mazda Miata. The High Beams work and the fog lights also work, just the low beams not working. I checked the relay under the hood on the passenger side and it looks ok. Also checked the fuse under steering wheel and it also looks fine. There are two wires going to the bulb housing, red / white & white. I have voltage to the bulb housing, 12v on the red / white wire, and 12v on the white wire when the switch is pointing to low beams. Also 12v on the red / white wire, and 0v on the white wire when the switch is pointing to high beams. Not sure how the lights are grounded.

It happened to me, both low beam filaments in both new at same time (happens a lot so I'm told) The earths are in a stoopid place under the left headlight.

SOURCE: Lo-beams not working

Hi manolonusa,

It may have something to do with your headlights, but my first thought is they are just a symptom of another problem.

I'd check on the alternator. If the ALT fails, a good battery will keep the car running for quite a while. Sometimes the first symptoms are the dimming of the headlights. So:

  • Make sure belts are tight.
  • Get a meter and test the output voltage while its running (be careful when doing this).
  • Check the voltage at the battery when stopped and when running.
  • Same thing with headlights on and off.
Get back to me with the results. Once the alternator is ruled out we can check a possible headlight problem. But this way, at least you won't be stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

2013 Mazda Miata. No low beams. 12V on both wires on low beam, 12V only on positive side on high beams. All other lights work. Checked fuses, relay and passnger side ground wires. I'm stumped.

This is a useful wiring diagram. I would say try swapping the relays over first and see if Low Beams now work and High Beams don't.

Other possibilities are two failed bulbs, or a broken connector. A good test meter should be able to trace this.

I want to use fog lights with high beams

hi,
you could just run a possitive wire from the back of your high beams straight to your fog lights then earth the fog lights stright to the car. this will work just make shure you disconnect your battery before playing with the wire's. if your not sure what you are doing i would recommend you take it to an authurised electrican. as for the high and low, same system but i would say it probably would over load the fuse creating more work for you.
