Have checked cable and linkage arms no obvious damage or binding.
Listened to bad advice when someone told me the cable could have been streched, Replaced cable and shifter assembly still will not go into park. When driving transmission operates normal. fuel mileage good.
then all at once everything is fine, Shifts in and out of park with no problem. Like new almost then a couple thousand miles later it's start acting up again with no warning...Is there???a electronic shift sensor that could cause a car to not go into park.

What I did was dissasemble the shiftlinkage unit and pull the pink plastic cam and spring out that broke. this is only a temporary fix though because it means that anyone can get into your car press the brake and roll it away!!!

It may be the torque converter clutch circuit. Do you have a check engine light on?
SOURCE: 2005 dodge stratus - 4 cyl auto - while driving,
ANY CODES PRESENT?ENGINE LIGHT ON?YOU MAY HAVE AN INPUT OR OUTPUT SENSOR DROPPING OUT..ALSO SOME DIRT MAY HAVE ENTERED TRANSMISSION WHEN SOLENOID PACK WAS CHANGED..MAY HAVE WENT INTO SMALL FILTER SCREENS OF SOLENOID PACK WHEN ENGINE WAS STARTED,CUTTING OFF FLUID FLOW TO SOLENOIDS..HAVE SEEN THIS RECENTLY AFTER A SOLENOID PACK REPLACEMENT
SOURCE: wont shift outta park.
Make sure that your brake lamps are working. I have seen the brake switch go bad and cause it not to come out of park. Good luck.
