1994 jaguar xj6 transmission light on change gear hard

Hello Patrick, I would locate and inspect the back up light switch. It could be bad or just need the linkage adjusted.

Mounted on the Transmission where the Cable moves the Shift Mechanism

Change the xmission fluid and filter. If that doesnt fix it, it could be the solenids, the soleniod pack, what evey they call it on a Jag.

Hi, if you have the ZF unit fitted there are no "easy" fixes. The shifts are ECU controlled and to be honest, it would be to your advantage to have a shop that is rated for working on that model of Jaguar hook it up to a computer and run a print out. The problem might just be a recalcitrant solenoid in the transmission, or a fault in the shift controller.
There is nothing inexpensive when a Jaguar has to be worked on. On the brighter side, you can shop around for a warranted re-built / manufactured trans for the car if it is deemed to be in need of replacement. Look up the club Jaguar World and do a little research, you might be pleasantly surprised.

have a scrap one in the yard if you stuck,english plates here in spain ,so its scrap as it would cost too much to drive it back to uk .Although i have one as my sunday car iam afraid i would need an english translation of translight and hard shift to be able to help you so i know whats wrong

Most probably the clutch plates are worn out and needs replacement. Remember to change the engine oil and gear-box oil too....................sodeep

Check the transmission vacuum modulator or the transmission shifting cable. Also check the transmission fluid.

This is internal gear separation. this can happen when the transmission is either old or, hasn't been serviced in a while. the gear ratio can become unstable during long term driving and, if not serviced properly, it will fail. this type of high efficiency trany can be quite fragile considering the age of this motor vehicle. i suspect many seal issues as well. i would rebuild as soon as possible.
