Speedometer cable replaced still have speedometer flutter

1989 Mustang speedometer is cable drive so VSS will not affect.
If over 140k miles the speedometer is likely worn out.
My company SpeedometerRepair.com can repair or another speedometer shop.

Speed odometer quit working and transmission not working properly at times. This is on a Ford Mustang 2001 V6.

Sounds like a vehicle speed sensor..Which is mounted on the transmission..It contros your speedometer plus effects transmission shifting

My speedometer on my 2005 V6 mustang has stopped working - can i fix it myself - is it a cable, the teeth in the gear or what - i am a female and haven't worked on cars in years - so I need specifics like...

The speedometer on your car is electronically operated and uses information from the Powertrain Control Module to control the speedometer readout. There isn't a cable or drive system that operates them anymore. Because of the large number of possible causes for your problem you'll most likely need to have the problem diagnosed at a Ford dealer or a competent auto repair facility as there just isn't much you can do on it yourself. Hope this helps!

Speedometer reads 15 to 30 mph than actual speed. Just started , cold here tires are the sameas before. 2005 v6 mustang

Sound like the speed sensor is not working right. Located on the drivers side of trans where the speedometer cable plugs in to the speed sensor. One 10mm bolt with clip holds it to trans.

Speedometer won't work on 1995 mustang

Modern cars no longer use a mechanical cable and speedometer. They have an electronic sensor called the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) which is mounted to the transmission where the old speedometer cable used to go. If the engine was replaced, perhaps the mechanic forgot to plug the wiring harness back into the VSS? Or perhaps he damaged the wiring or the sensor during the engine overhaul. (The transmission has to be removed to remove the engine from the car.)
