I think it can and I remember problems with the PCM in the transmission controls had recalls. First check your fluid levels and see if it is low. You may get lucky to just add fluid. You may be better off running your VIN# to see if there were recalls on your car at the dealer. Best of Luck.

Starter and torque the long bolt to 57-72 ft. lbs. (77-98 Nm) on
Altima and Maxima and 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) on 350 Z. torque the short
bolt to 22-30 ft. lbs. (30-41 Nm)

you call it the serpentine belt, we call it the fanbelt.it,needs tightening,slightly loosen the alternator, then pull away from engine and tighten belt, tight enough when you can move longest part of the belt, between pulleys, 1/2 inch in/out.
if squeel re occurs fit new belt.
