How do you replace an ignition cylinder in a 1987 Cadillac Eldorado

The cylinder is "clocked" to fit with 180 degrees respective to the Ignition housing. If that was done correctly, then the Ignition housing slipped its slotted mount and is bottomed out and out-of-time. You need to reposition the mount on the steering column.

This should be checked first. Then the end of the rod going to the lockout could be out of adjustment because of the Ignition switch. Check that if the Ignition switch mount is not slotted.

There should be some YouTube videos on GM lock and switch replacements including the linkage.
There is a gear the lock cylinder turns that moves the rod.

Replace the ignition switch, which is behind the lock cylinder.

could be the fuel pump,check to see if you have power to the pump,if you do undo fuel line and see pressure if none or low replace,if you have no power to the pump check fuses and relay.

That job requires a partial disassembly of the steering column, with some specialized tools, to access and remove the ignition cylinder hold-down bolt.

the problem is probably the ignition lock cylinder. the ignition lock cylinder has two wires coming off it, after tine they will break. to repair need to replace the lock cylinder code the new lock cylinder and replace the key

WEWhat is wrong with the cylinder. They are replaceable but not repairable. To just rempve the cylinder, insert the key and turn it backwards to accessory. The take a straightened paper clip ,insert it in the little hole in the plate the key inserts into anpush as you turn the key back to off position, Using the key to pull out the cylinder.
