You may want to have the throttle position sensor tested. You should be able to buy a Haynes or Chilton manual for directions. A new one TPS is only $60.00. Test before you replace.

I also have a problem with my 2001 beetle my brakes jam on as soon as you touch the brake pedel and the only way to release then is to release the nipple on the caliper can any help its driving me mad

there is a transmission control module under the dash . it is behind the console.

The 5.2 engine has an intake manifold that has a bottom cover that the gasket blows out. It's a lot of doing but any person used to unbolting and rebolting on any car engine will have no troble doing it.This gasket costs 10.91 and takes 4.2 hours for an experenced mechanic to do it. I can do this and two 4 wheel brake jobs in the same day and an experienced mechanic is expected to right this much work done. Other parts needs can be oil and filter anti freeze and flush. injector seals and any thing else that the mechanic can break and drop and a therostate. and on and on.

Check fluid, make sure rack or pump are not leaking. If fluid is not low, then you will probably need a pump.

You need to remove distributor car and check for corrosion on the wire contacts or hair line cracks,
And check or replace rotor.it sounds like its jumping spark across wire contacts.

The idle adjustment screw in throttle body has carbon build up on its tip.need to remove screw clean depoisits off tip,carbon in idlescrew port(with carb clean) re-install idle screw,seat it,then back out 1 1/2 turns.start car and hold at higher idle to blow out carb. clean &deposits out of throttle body then recheck for surging once warmed up.

Could be a wheel bearing they have a sensor that affects the abs and ets. If you plug it in to a computer it will tell you which wheel has the bad bearing and sensor

If this happened all of a sudden, It sounds like a Vacuum leak. I would inspect the vacuum hoses for brakes or cracks. Is the Rpm too high to test drive and see how the vehicle is running?
