How do i replace the gasket to the timing cover.
Before you go out and replace the timing cover gasket; check to see if the timing chain tensioner is not the cause of the leak. I will bet you a FixYa rating that the tensioner is the culprit, not the cover gasket. I replace tensioners every week, and I have never had to do a cover gasket.
Also, the answer given to you by "suterman" is 100% WRONG. Your car has a timing chain, not a belt, that is why you have a tensioner, and it is leaking. And, if he had any clue about cars, he would know that you pull the balancer off BEFORE you pull the cover. In any case, you need to do little more than replace the tensioner.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice.
Hello, Its not your timing cover that leaking. Its a cam seal or crankshaft seat. You must remove the timing cover then the timing belt then remove the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer. This is not a job that is very easy to do. I suggest that you take to a reputable mechanic or dealer to have this done. Please rate this answer ,Thank you.

SOURCE: Leaks oil looks like from valve cover
You have to remove the spark plugs cables and remove the four nuts that you see when the cables are removed.
When the four nuts are removed, simply raise the valuve cover. When replacing the gasket, make sure you get the gromets as well. Those sometimes get worn or crack since they are more exposed than the value cover gasket. Make sure that you clean the cover from oil and replace the gasket with no use of silicon.
Good Luck.
SOURCE: 1989 tercel major oil leak passanger side. how do
The oil pump is located under the black timing cover , however your leak is likely the lower main seal under that cover as well , your oil pump will be on the upper right side , you should replace them both and the timing belt while your there considering the cost of the parts , it is good insurance you wont lose your belt while you still own your car and have to go back in again , it is not hard to do just be patient , also when you loosen off your timing belt tensioner '' to remove the belt ''dont forget to re tension it after you replace it
To install:
Do not hammer the damper into place as damage may result to the damper or engine.
