Has throttle body been rebuilt? What about the gaskets/seals? are they new, (incl base gasket)? Also check throttle valve shaft for leakage between throttle body and shaft.

SOURCE: 91 Buick Park Ave won't start

i just came across this problem myself the other day. i have a 91 buick park avenue that sometimes won't start. i checked several things out like cable connections and coil pack etc. etc. come to find out it was the wiring that came off the coil pack and connects to the crank sensor. the wiring that ran over top of the water pump had finally heated up so bad the coating on the wires had melted and when the engine got hot enough the wires would come in contact and send false signals to the computer not letting it start. after the car cools down and the wires contract it would start. so check the wires from the coil pack to the crank sensor to make sure the wires are not melted together.

SOURCE: buick regal 92 3.8L Horrible fuel mileage

Sounds like you might have an oxygen sensor problem. Your catalytic converter(s) maybe defective or dirty. That in turn can dirty up the oxygen sensor. A defective oxygen sensor will send faulty info to the computer, interpreting the fumes as cold (even when the engine warms up). That causes the computer to adjust the fuel mixture to very rich, giving you poor gas mileage and the fuel smell. Hope it helps.

91 chevy cav z24 5 spd will not start @ times sounds like no fire other times sounds like no fuel.Replaced fuel pump, timing chain, crankshaft sensor, oil sensor, map sensor, body throttle accel sensor.st

Pull the air cleaner off and crank the engine. If puffs of air come come out of the throttle body when cranking the engine then the timing is not set correctly. Otherwise, after cranking pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel and if so this indicates an ignition problem (coil, distributor/cap/rotor or faulty ECU).

96 tahoe . It will not crank up unless I pour gas into the throttle body . Once it cranks it will run untill I shut it off but want crank by itself . Why

First, lets be clear with terms. To crank is to turn the engine over, you can do this manually with a wrench on many vehicles. It requires no spark or air. To turn over or to fire is when you achieve combustion. Example: You could pull the spark plugs on a vehicle and turn the key and it would crank, but it wouldn't fire or turn over.

Now it sounds to me like your vehicle is cranking but not firing unless you pour gas in it. My first thoughts are fuel system. I'm assuming it can't be fuel pump because it runs once it fires. Perhaps the fuel pump isn't priming itself, or perhaps somehow air is getting in the line between the injector and fuel pump? Test the fuel pump first by turning the car from off to on (not starting, just on). You will usually hear a short buzzing noise coming from the engine bay that stops shortly afterwards, that's your fuel pump pressurizing the line. (Pro Tip: If you ever try to take your key from off to straight to start and the vehicle doesn't start on the first try, but does the second time no problem, try delaying at on for a moment before trying to start. This gives your fuel pump time to pressurize the line.) Assuming your fuel pump is charging the line, the next place to look would be at the path the fuel takes to the throttle body. When you crank it over and it doesn't start, are you getting any fuel? If you can't see where the fuel enters the system try smelling the exhaust while cranking without it firing, if it smells of fuel you're good and need to look at air flow and spark, if not it's a fuel issue.

Past that, I'll leave it to someone more experienced than myself, but that would be how I troubleshot my own vehicle.

My 2001 Buick Regal will only start if press the gas pedal, when I release the gas pedal to step on the brake the engine shuts off. Any Ideas?

Could be a dirty throttle body or a faulty idle air control valve.
The computer controls idle speed by regulating the amount of air entering the intake thru the throttle body.

Car ran out of gas. now wont start. replaced fuel pump and filter. fuel is coming through the rail. car will crank if fuel is poured in throttle body until all fuel is burned up.

Dear,

You have to pump the fuel pump and bleed some fuel from the injectors so to bleed the air as well.

due to air blockage in the line its not letting to crank the engine.

please look for it

thanx

99 tahoe, changed fuel filter, and poured some gas in the throttle body and it will start.

i am assuming that this vehicle will not start without the gas poured into the throttle body? If so then there is a fuel dilevery problem which can be coming from injectors that are not firing due to clogged injectors or a malfunctioning injection pulse. or clogged fuel delivery system which is most probaly not the case due to you changing the fuel filter, or a bad fuel pump. you have some testing ahead of you.
