After the interior got pretty wet due to a super hard rainstorm (I had left the sunroof popped up, and each of two front door windows abt 1" shy of closed), the highbeam indicator on the dash lit up, "all by itself," as I was driving home. Even after turning the engine off and removing the keys, the high beams remained on. Obviously I could not leave it in this state overnight. I know the location of the electrical connectors to the headlamp assemblies, so I actually unplugged them. Seems less burdensome than disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, considering all the steps entailed as part of the reconnect. Even after accomplishing that, the blue high-beam indicator remains lit on the instrument panel. I am thinking that something got damp and now a faulty bit is set somewhere in the lighting control circuitry. Will this correct itself once the car has thoroughly dried out? I'll know by this time tomorrow. Will post again when this is resolved.

There's a TSB on that problem. It involves broken wires in the A and B pillar from the central convenience module to the rest of the car. Ask your VW dealership or what not for a more specific answer.
SOURCE: 97 audi a4 no power/battery fuse?
Sounds like either the battery leads are on the wrong way round, or the starter main cable is touching something and shorting to earth. Retrace your steps and check your connection locations.
Either that or its a dead short through the starter. Remove main cable from back of starter and tape up incase of short. then reconnect battery. If ok now then your looking at starter motor.

SOURCE: power windows, sunroof, interior lights not working. Fuse?
I just saw your posting. Yes, It could be a fuse, a 10amp interior light fuse BUT... I had to replace the Central Locking Control module which toasted first... I had the 3 open door, no working lights/windows situation too...
The problem seems to be in the main cabin light which has the 3 way rocker switch. Turn this off (depress the side on the driver side of the car (US)). Check the 10 amp fuse for the interior light. If it is burnt, you are OK if its not, you need to replace the Central Locking module. ~$200 US
I still have not replaced the cabin light module where I think a short is. If I replace the fuse in question, and turn the cabin light on, it "pulses" for a few minutes and then cooks the fuse.
