you need to pull off wheels,brakes, rotor /unit hub bearing, both axles and intermediate shaft, as well as the vac disconnec ton the front axle tube. if only the right side leaks then only then only pull the right axle and intermediate shaft and vac disco. it is a trick with a miller tool to replace the seal. the left side seal is inside the diff and the carrier has to come out to replace it. pete

Sounds like worn out steering parts.
Jack up the front end of the truck. Move each front tire side to side and look at the steering linkages.
Normally, when you turn the tire on one side, the tire on the othe side should move at the same time.
It's the best way to find out what steering components are worn out.

The top is a 216. The bottom one is a 248. Your option's list calss it something different so I don't know which it is. It sounds like you've got a problem with the u-joint. They're easy to check. If you see a lot of bright orange rust around them, they're bad. Also, put the truck in 4 wheel drive, make sure the front axle engages, and grab the front driveshaft and turn it back and forth sharply while watching the u-joint. If it's bad you'll see the axle side roate a little bit but not the wheel side.
